Default How can I keep my eyes from drying out (contacts)?

Glasses broke, I went to eye doc and got contacts again. I've had them before, when I lived in FL.

Here at work the humidity is low around 30% (kept low for the manufacturing area)

i am wearing wraparound sunglasses right now and they keep my eyes from drying out but i cant wear sunglasses all day - that was the point of getting contacts to get this stuff off my face. i already have gone thru several types of contacts to prevent drying and these are teh best, they go an hour before they are dried out and cloudly.

do i need to get eye drops or something ?

Yeah just keep putting in eye drops every few hours. That's what I do.

I put a few drops of a lubricating eye drop in with my contact solution overnight. Also when I put them in the morning. Works pretty good, and lasts all day. I never have to use rewetting drops.

Here is what happened with mine when I was a rookie 10 years ago w/ contacts.

I would rub the hell out of them to clean and they get deformed. They no longer sit "flush" in my eyes so air gets in and thus, the cloudiness.

Try using Renu no rub to maintain the shape of the lens.

Got to remember that... just started to rub the hell out of my new pair. I even have the no rub Renu solution, too.

Also, on the Renu bottle, it would say rinse both sides for 5 seconds, that is total BS. They just want you to go through the bottle fast, since w/o rubbing, a bottle should last forever.
Just rinse with water if you want, then let let it soak in the Renu no rub and let it do it's work.

My optometrist told me this. (She is hot btw, her name is Nancy Vu, at Vision First in Fremont, CA for bay area people thinking of getting an eye exam)

Just rub lotion in your eyes! It may burn a little at first, but don't worry....

i got some of the no rub solution. do you really not have to rub em at all? cool..

before i used bausch and lomb they worked ok,

no i am using the new ceba (seva, siva) ? brand? apparently they are very oxygen permeable etc.

they are good but something else is wrong. my eyes dry and blur/cloud too easily. i am going to get a new pair of glasses asap and look into lasic.

edit - i had the original Acuvue's 3 years ago and i havent been able to get them in TX. they were awesome. no problems ever. i never touched glasses for 2 years!!!

It really does work.

You can buy rewetting solution also made by Renu in a bottle that's tiny enough not to be noticed in your pocket.

Something else to consider, a trick that us old guys have picked up on, is to make sure you have enough Vitamin E in your diet, prefereably in the form of rose hips and/or rose hip extract. Rose hips are the most easily assimilated Vitamin E, and it aids in producing more tears.

Do all of you wear soft contacts? I have hard contacts right now, and I'm thinking of switching. My eyes don't dry out too much but they get super red with the hard lenses in there, and they're kind of a pain in the *** cause you have to clean them every night. My right contact lens is cracked, also...so it may be time for a replacement.

Anybody with experience with both hard and soft have any input?

Sorry for thread jacking, but I think the original question was answered...get eye drops...right?

I wear soft contacts like once or twice a week... when you put them in make sure the inside of the lenses are full of solution, and then squirt some more in your eye afterwards, this usually keeps me good for the day, I put some more in at night if I need it

Blink more often............if you are doing something like working on something or using a computer-anything that you you use your eyes alot for, you will blink less.

get some visine for contacts solution.

try not to use it very often though cuz it's better to let your eyes get used to them so they'll lubricate naturally.
