Default Cracked windshield, how to keep it from spreading?

A rock flew and hit my windshield on the freeway and left a star-looking crack about the size of a nickel and I have no money to replace the windshield yet; though I heard somewhere that there is some kind of "paste" or something they sell to put on the crack to keep it from spreading. Anyone might know what I'm talking about?

get it replaced...in some states it's free and your insurance won't go up

I just put superglue in the crack...wasn't anything big...it worked fine. Never had problems since.

where in SoCal are you? I need to find a place to get mine replaced (again) The last place I had my windshield replaced at now wants $150 + tax/install as opposed to the $115 + tax/install I paid two summers ago (this is for aftermarket glass obviously) I was thinking of going to a junkyard and doing it myself... I searched for this and found an empty thread =\ anybody have experience doing this? I mean changing a windshield yourself. Thanks!

edit:
whoops, forgot to answer your question... there's this place in Upland that I know of that fills in your crack to keep it from spreading. If you're in the area then lemme know.

If you do get your windshield replaced, get factory glass. I got some cheap install for a new windshield last summer, and the fit is shitty...I can hear air coming in through the sides. Luckily, I have encountered any leaking problems...yet.

you should take it back to who ever installed it. there should be no leaking at all. when we bought our cr-v fromt the dealer the windshield was pitted to all hell. it was totaly not legal for them to sell it like that. we took it back and they had to replace it. first day it leaked like hell. took it back and they re glued it and now its fine.

I can tell you what NOT to do, although it might not really apply to someone living in SoCal. Anyway, if you have a crack and there is ice or snow on the windshield, DONT just turn on the heat and let it warm up on the defroster setting. My pickup had a crack and it never seemed to spread, then we got an ice storm and I warmed up the windshield using the defrost setting and the crack went totally across the windshield....dammnit.
Also, I once had a guy try to "so-called professionally" repair my GSR windshield that had a little star crack. They use some glue type stuff and sucked it through the windshield with a vacuum device. In the process, the crack spread out to 6 inches and I had to have the windshield replaced.
I'd say, plan on replacing yours......

well, if you were following one of those 18 wheelers hauling lots of dirt n pebbles near a construction site i heard you can send a letter to your city officials or whatever and tell them that the construction has caused damage to your car and they will replace your windshield... i havn't tried this, but i was told

my insurance company replace d a windshield cuz a crack caused by a construction truck..i gave them the name of the trucking company the carrier went after the money

those windshied repair kits work..after applying the epoxy..make sure u buff it out ..in most case s u wont even notice a difference

BTW..if its a small *star* crack..most insurance companies will wave any deductables if they dont have to replace the windshield
