EX (SOHC VTEC) motor with a DX tranny (long gears), drop-in pistons, rods, injectors, and rising rate FPR = 13's easy and a daily driver. Your biggest problem will then be traction.
We just did this in a '98 hatch and its best run was a 13.1 @ 124 - no traction at all.

Hey man, go for the turbo. Everyone and their brother is getting a GSR or b16 swap, be different. I have the same motor as you and I just got a T3 turbo and crower rods and such, getting ready to install it in about a month after I get my hondata system. Where in jax do you live? I live in orange park, about five minutes from speedcraft (They suck) about 30 minutes from jax.........

Why would you use the DX tranny? I know that would probably keep you in boost better but isen't the D16Z6 tranny a better one?
I know a few guy's with a D15 turboed civic who are trying to put the D16Z6 tranny on their setup.
Insight please?

Re: what would you do in my situation??? (Hybrid)
People use the DOHC VTEC engines becuase they are a better design and make power for less money once the swap is completed.
SOHC are made for Fuel economy...
Why else would all the fast stock Honda's use DOHC's? Type S, any model, New <99-00 or 2002+>Civic Si <Portly, but still top of it's class>, all Integra's, and NSX's.
See a trend?

Re: what would you do in my situation??? (Hybrid)
i was in the same dillema a few weeks ago....
but i decided to go for a swap instead. i figure i'll be more happy with the gains this will give me.... i bought a B18B Complete for <$1500 CAD
i haven't installed it yet though because i just ran into a new dillema...
to build it first or turbo right away?
in this game you will always run into forks in the road, just make sure that you know what your goals are and if you can achieve them with what you have now.... otherwise think long and hard before you make a decision....
peace

I'd go with a GSR....in all motor form with just a little bolt ons is more reliable and you could hit mid to high 13s. Then later you can have the option to go turbo. Either that or a B20Turbo. My opinion.

dude! do a swap, you know how torquey your car will be with a big ol DOHC motor in it? and if u decide to turbo it later, you will be dangerously fast..

Re: what would you do in my situation??? (ijustwannarace)
my friend got his complete LS swap for 1500.. definitly do LS, B20 is nice but its 7-800 for the block alone.. you can always bore the LS to 2.0 if u like.. still will be cheaper..
i dyno'd 230whp @ 8psi w/ my LS turbo integraand im already running with trans ams and SS's.. In a hatch, yeh, you will haul *** for sure..

Re: what would you do in my situation??? (ijustwannarace)
like said, i paid less than $1500 Canadian for my swap (B18B) so you should be able to find yours for around ~$900 i'm guessing???
its cheaper/easier to find B18B's than any other DOHC motor and when/if you want to build it you can always bore it out to 2.0 or more......
