Re: turbo a d16? (jdmsol94)
Sure it is.
Which d16?
How many miles you got on it?
How much you wanna spend?
In some cases it might be worth it to just save and get yourself a DOHC.

go to http://www.homemadeturbo.com
Yes it is worth it...you can get a lot of power for not a lot of money...
If you're gonna pay 2000 for a greddy kit though, might as well get a swap instead...

mooseknuckle...are you just talking out of your *** (which i think you are) about the d-series being complete ****...because the D-series can be fairly quick, especially if boosted...infinate nexus has an all motor y7 that runs 14's...I know of several turbo d series that run 13's

Re: (Tad)
boostsohfast(i think that's his name) hit a persoanl best of 13.6 with 7 psi in a gutted hatch. I hit 14.9 on 5 psi with stock clutch on my greddy kit. Let me see a del sol with an ls/b16 hit 14.9 with just the swap nothing else. And I can always up the boost. I say go turbo. Everyone says swap but you can make more power for less money than a swap. I mean, if you're goal is to hit 12s then yes, a swap is a good place to start cause to hit 12s on a boost sohc you'd have to do a good build up and run a good amount of boost unless you're boosteded9 lol. His crazy *** hit 300 whp on a stock bottom end sohc. And it only blew cause of a cooling problem. WAAAAAAAA PSHHHH!

Good link. However, I noticed only one person running a homemade turbo on a D16Y8. Is it harder to assemble a system for that engine (probably due to the OBD)?

No, usually its because the greddy kit is so damn cheap. The OBD2 really has nothing to do with anything.

Maurader has dyno comparisions in his Edlebrock turbo post.
The B18C doesn't put out as much horsepower or torque as a 7psi D16Y8 does.
So, why spend all that money on an engine when you can buy a turbo and if you blow that turbo'd engine, you can replace it for FAR less than the B series engine?

Hey thats me . The hatch wasn't gutted out either. Weighed in at 2435 with myself and full interior in the car. Spare, jack, etc. D-series powa!!!
Happyman - Awesome time man. Get a clutch and turn up the boost.

Re: (Happyman)
boost the d16 if i had the chance to do it again i would have built my old d16 and boosted it instead boosting my stock DOHC. Sohc motors are cheap so if you blow ur motor you dont have to break the bank to get another 1

Oh, you mean this graph? Shows a 7 psi D16Y8 (top in red) Then a GSR with headers and cat-back, a stock B16, then in black the stock D16Y8. Note how the Y8 hangs with the B16 until close to redline, those dualcams just tune the engine for higher revs, not more torque
