Tito1324's B18C1 Turbo Build Progress Thread -Suggestions Welcome
so this is my first real build, i currently have a b18c block already got it sleeved by golden eagle..i just ordered:
84mm cp pistons
Manley rods 9.1 compression
I'm trying to get the expensive stuff out of the way then focus on the head.
i'm at the point where i want to order a turbo to get it out the way and my cousins local tuner d3 said go with a borg warner s300 (i'm shooting for 450-500hp)
my question is have any of you guys used this turbo or have any knowledge to how that will work out..
exactly what model borg warner s300 should i go with, because it looks like there are couple models.

This question is better suited for the guys in the Forced Induction section.
Moving the thread there.

If this is 400-500hp to the wheels., your tuner at "d3" is thinking way too large for such a reasonable goal and use. I don't recommend that size at all.
You need to really focus on the purpose of the car: Street/strip? , Torque monster street? Circuit racing? a combination of both?
What's your budget to spend on a turbocharger only? (no "don't wanna break the bank" answers.. that's lunacy... Have a maximum willingness to spend on a turbocharger.. a real number )
Are you settling for a used unit? or a new unit? What flange? T3? T4?
What exhaust manifold are you using?
Then, answering these questions help you (and us) answer the other questions you may have in mind (i.e. max rpm? what's the displacement after GS-R crankshaft, LS crankshaft? etc?) then you can see what size family to go with.
Let's start with those areas first, then worry about if "d3" is in the right ball-park. I'm willing to gamble that he/she is not.
There are literally hunderds of options to choose from.

so the plan is the have this as a sunday drive car so i guess street/strip but at the same time a torque monster. i'm not really on a budget i have a decent income. as to what flange t3 or t4 i am going with a ramhorn manifold so i'm guessing that's a t3 and i'm sorry i am still learning on some of this stuff. no i don't want a used turbo charger,i want a new one. as to the crankshaft i am going to use the stock gsr because i heard it was a good strong one. i don't want a turbo that will max me out at 500hp i want a turbo that if i ever in the long run want to turn it up to 600 i would be able to.

i'm not really on a budget i have a decent income. as to what flange t3 or t4 i am going with a ramhorn manifold so i'm guessing that's a t3 The style of manifold doesn't affect the flange chosen (t3/t4) you need to decide which flange you want and then look for one in a ramhorn style.
and i'm sorry i am still learning on some of this stuff. Google is your friend
no i don't want a used turbo charger,i want a new one. got it
as to the crankshaft i am going to use the stock gsr because i heard it was a good strong one. the crankshafts are designed with different stroke ratios. do you want to rev the **** out of it or build torque lower in rpms
i don't want a turbo that will max me out at 500hp i want a turbo that if i ever in the long run want to turn it up to 600 i would be able to. well we can't have everything, pick a desired hp and build for it. to go from 500-600 its more than just "turning up dat boost", your talking different motor parts and a different turbo

i'm going to go with a t3 flange and don't want to rev the hell out of it..i don't want the turbo spooling to soon or to late kinda something in between. the goal is 450-500 hp. with stock gsr crankshaft.

Excellent points, Mayfly, although I think 500-600whp can be done on the same turbocharger and same engine, but not with a ridiculous sized S300.

If you want to stick with a BW turbo, an S256sx with open T3 housing would probably be good for a little north of 500WHP (I'm not as familiar with these but I think 550+ may be a stretch). 62mm S300SXE could also be an option but would be overkill for 450->500.
^Based on 5 min of google searching, so I'd encourage you to look up some stuff on your own, but that's at least what I'm thinking for now.
