Someone give me ways to piece a $1200 Turbo kit together!
Used is ok.
By the way...will a t3/t4 revhard manifold mount a drag3 turbo?
Manifold 300
Turbo 400
Wastgate Tial 200
Piping 200
BOV 150
Gauge 50
What else I need? Checkvalves?
Can you guys fill in the blanks on what is needed and what specific parts you would use and where from? THANKS! I'm trying to get this stuff soon.
I most likely can't afford intercooler by the way.

Yes, Revhard kits use T3/4 turbos. Good luck getting those prices though. I'm getting my turbo for about $400, but that's buying a rebuilt T3 cartridge and having it converted to a T3/4. You can get a TurboXS BOV for less than 150 - that's what I got. Piping is probably going to be more than $200 if the price includes silicone couplers and good clamps. If you want it on the cheap, get a Mitsubishi turbo (and manifold with T25 flange if you can find one). Actually, a T25 would work real good since you're non-intercooled and won't be boosting a ton anyway. You can get that turbo for like $150 rebuilt if you dig enough.

Fuel Management?
Is there any way to fit a t25 to a t3 manifold with an adapter, so that later on, if necessary you can just swap out the t25 for a t3?

hey mplex2000, who are you getting that from? SO let me get this straight. You have a straight t3(internal wastegate)and they are converting it to a t3/t4 hybrid(with external wastegate)for 400 bucks? Damn, that's way cheaper than buying a new t3 hybrid...maybe I should do that since I can get a straight t3 from an older t-bird...tell me who's doing it for you.

how about:
T3 turbo: $100
intercooler: $100
piping and manifold: $200-$250
FMU: $50 <---saw it on the part trader today
bosch Fuel pump: $80
miscelaneous lines and couplers: $100

hope you don't plan to buy some of those parts used from a private seller. you'll probably be getting some busted parts for those prices.

naw...I know a local junkyard that has a couple t-birds with everything still intact...what I get for 100 bucks is the turbo, manifold and the oil lines...I told them to break down the price for just the turbo, but the said that they have to sell it like that...
the t3 will bolt onto any manifold with a t3 flange...

thunderbirds were turbo before? What year? Or does t-bird refer to something else?
t-birds aren't that hard to come by are they?

Re: Someone give me ways to piece a $1200 Turbo kit together! (bgod)
that's what i paid for the parts on my car. Everything is working fine. Junkyards sell those turbos for $100 all day long from mid 80s T-birds. The price for the manifold and piping is for materials. you'll have to make it yourself. the intercooler can be just about any core that's a decent size. I bought a core from a friend and had my friend make some new end tanks for me. FMU's are simple pieces of nothing, nothing can break on them so used is fine. you can get external wastegates from the junkyard as well and then rebuild them with deltagate parts. So you have almost a brand new wastegate for about $45.

Re: Someone give me ways to piece a $1200 Turbo kit together! (TurboInteg95)
heres pics of the ghetto turbo kit if youre interested.
This is the manifold, I bought the 90 degree steel elbows for $3.50 a piece, I used about 7 of them, they're 1/8 inch thick. The flanges I had my friend Water jet cut at his work, I gave him $20, so that's about $50 I have in the manifold. That wastegate is from an old Audi 5000 turbo, It's been rebuilt with Deltagate parts, so I guess that makes it about as reliable as a deltagate, after the rebuild it was about $45. I plan on getting a Tial real soon.
The intercooler core is off of a delivery truck, it's actually half of the core, I think the guy I bought the core from stole it from the trucks at night but I dont know, I gave him $100 for it. My friend made me some new end tanks.
This is the fuel pump, it's a little dirty from water and stuff, it's mounted on the left rear of the car so the tire kicks up water and dirt onto it. I should probably move it but I'm to lazy.
The rest of the intercooler piping and Downpipe was about $150 in materials. plus I had to buy a few of those 3-bolt flanges. Then plan on spending about $200 on miscelaneous stuff like couplers and lines and fittings. That's about it. Turbo kits are fairly cheap if you dont mind doing a little work and spending some time at the junkyard.

Re: Someone give me ways to piece a $1200 Turbo kit together! (ekimmel)
I got the turbo cartridge (already rebuilt) for $100. This is the center section, no intake or exhaust housings (but you really don't need them anyway since you're having it converted to T3/4). Here's a comparision -
New T3/4 - $650 + shipping
-----------------------------------------
or...
-----------------------------------------
T3 from junkyard - $100 (plus the time and aggravation of finding one)
Rebuild T3 - $150-200
Convert rebuilt T3 to T4 - $250-300
-----------------------------------------
or...
-----------------------------------------
Buy rebuilt T3 cartridge (Ebay, do a search there's a place that sells them left and right with Dutch auctions) - $100 shipped
Ship off turbo to Majestic Turbo (www.majesticturbo.com) and have them convert it to a T3/4 - $300-325 incl shipping
There you have it. When I bought the T3 cartridge, they gave me the choice of which compressor wheel and I just said I need whatever one comes on a t-bird ... doesn't matter much anyway since you're converting it to a hybrid. I just asked for the Tbird since Majestic told me that's the car I should get one off of for this project.

Get a Vortech FMU. They cost about $145 from http://www.vortecheng.com but I got mine used for $100 shipped.

you could actually do the conversion yourself. It's just a backplate, wheel, and housing.

Also, I don't know of a place where I can just go to the counter and say "gimme a T4 inlet housing, a T3 exhaust housing, a T4 compressor wheel..." lol.

I'm pretty sure there's no welding involved. From what I know you change the compressor wheel, back plate and housing. You can order all those parts from Turbonetics, I've seen it in there catalog.

Re: Someone give me ways to piece a $1200 Turbo kit together! (TurboInteg95)
Hey TurboInteg95, where did you figure out how to weld all those pieces of piping, including the plumbing piping as well. I guess I'd have to have a friend who could weld all those together for me or could I just take it to a muffler shop? Where did you get all you plumbing piping parts anyhow?
How much power do you put down and what are your times by the way? I'm curious how much power your are getting out of your kit.
If I were to get a t3 turbo, how much would a rebuild cost and would I be able to do it myself with some simple tools? If I paid someone to do it, how much would that cost?

you can buy a cartridge that's been rebuilt already for $100 on ebay. My friends dad has a small fabrication shop and he basically lets us use all his equipment. you could have a muffler shop do it though if you precut everything and marked how the pieces fit together. As for power I'm not to sure, I suspect around 230 hp and just a hair over 200 ft lbs of torque. this is on about 9 psi. times, hmm I dont like to talk about that. Last time I went to the track I had so many problems with things blowing off I only made it to the end of the track once and that one time I happened to miss a gear, go figure. well anyway that one pass with the missed gear was a 14.4 @ 107 mph, that was on street tires. 2.4 60 ft. .577 R/T. My slicks never showed up that day, I was hoping for a low 13, maybe maybe maybe high 12 if my driving allowed it. If you wanted to rebuild a cartridge yourself its' easy, I just did one, they come with instructions.

New* Revhard Manifold $300
New* T3/T4 Turbo $400
New* Tial Wastegate $200
New* Type-S BOV $150
Custom Piping $200
This are all prices I've found on the internet.
That comes to...$1250
What else I need? Some kind of FMU? Checkvalves?
Any little extra items? Give me some estimate on prices...or where to find these things. Thanks. Great responses to this thread. Appreciate it.

Re: manifold (TurboInteg95)
Classifieds. i.e. thepartstrader.com
Seems easier for someone to sell a whole kit - they jack the price a bit.
Piece by piece...harder to sell it seems - you can get some good deals.
