Default question for specialist engine builder..

Excuse my spoken, I am French..
I am going to rebuilt my B16 for turbocharger, it is 105000 miles and good condition.
I looking for wiseco pistons for which it is necessary 0.6mm of clearance, OEM pistons it is necessary 0.2mm. Do you think that I can take wiseco std (81mm) just with a power hone in the sleeves to be has the good clearance? Or then machined the block to put 81.5mm? I would like to keep the maximum of thickness of stock sleeves for 16~18 psi of boost..
understand?? :-/

me personally, i never put new pistons in an old bore.
i would get 81.5mm pistons and have the block bored accordingly.

if i want to boost 20 psi, it is not a problem on 81.5mm stock sleeves? a block guard is required?

20 psi with 81.5mm should not be a problem. a block guard would be a good idea. you can keep 81mm, just need to hone the cylinder walls. but if your building the motor, you mite as well bore it.

if you built the motor with wiseco pistons and forged rods, as long as it is built right, you should not have problems pushing 20 psi, a good tune would be in need.

leave the block guard out, it is old tech, and a good tune will do much better.

agree, stay away from block guards and go with 81.5mm overbore pistons

good rods and pistons and stay away from the block guard...I showed one of those to my engine builder and he literally threw it at me!

why do you say to stay away from the block guard? I thought it is to strengthen the sleeves?

you need to check the bore's for roundness with a dial bore guage. then make your decision on what pistons you will buy.

Srp piston are a lower quality Je piston.

we use JE & CP pistons in our 8 second race motors.

Physically, sure, it adds a little strength to the sleeves.

It also limits coolant flow to what is essentially the hottest part of the bores, the top.

Not to mention most people just end up slapping them in after the final bore/hone, and end up distorting the tops of the bores themselves.

If you want to do anything to make the sleeves stronger, consider block posting, resleeving with a set of iron sleeves, and getting the car professionally tuned.
