Default Low Oil Pressure after Turbo and VTEC issues!

Ok here is the deal, i install a turbo recently and now my oil pressure is alot lower..
Its about 5-10psi warm idel, and its about 45 psi at wot. When it was 25idel, 80 WOT. Also when i go to engage vtec, it engages but it falls in and out, i think due to lack of oil pressure, maybe?

The way my oil setup is. I have a 4an line from the back of my block to a disbt, that has my stock sending unit, oil pressure sending unit, and turbo oil feed. I have no leaks or anything.

The line to the turbo is also 4an,

Now if i remove the oil line to the turbo and just plug it. The Gauge will got up to 80psi at WOT. I havent tested to see if the vtec would work. cause i didnt wanna drive with oil to my turbo.

Ive change my oil, and filter to make sure that wasnt it!

If someone could help me out or something that would be great!! Thanks Alot

is your oil pan dented ? the clearance between the bottom of the oil pick up and the oil pan is very very small, a small dent at the right spot could cause your oil pressure to drop at that level..

no brand new oil pan, with no dents..?..could the 4an line to the turbo be starving the engine of oil?....

maybe need a smaller line?

I doubt it'll make that much difference in oil pressure. The larger feed line will cause too much oil dumping to your turbo than losing oil pressure to the motor.

ok...soo its more than likely not the line....they how can i limit the oil supply to the turbo..because when i take away the oil line to the turbo everything is up to the right pressure...soo does that make any sense!

same problem here and I have a -3an line.

Never goes over 50psi @ WOT, I even tried 20W50 oil.

I wonder if its the gauge.....with my last setup, I had a greddy gauge and all was fine, this setup I have a VDO gauge and it never goes past 50psi. I think I'm gonna plug the greddy back in and see what it goes up to.

New oil pump on my recent build also.

WoW! You guys really have low oil pressure. Us VVL guys (Nissan 'vtec') see about 100psi at cold start up and 25-30psi on warm idle. Our oil pressure pegs the gauge at WOT. And normal crusing conditions we see about 60-70psi.

I would go down to a -3 AN line. If you want to keep the -4 line, just get a restrictor.

A friend with a built engine has the same problem. He's shimmed the oil pump to the point that oil filter seals break going down the road when his engine is cold... but the oil press just drops when warm. Gets to the point that he goes in + out of VTEC under WOT after a couple pulls.

He started with a clapped out, coked up B17 head off a block that had pitched a rod out from running low on oil. I've been blaming the head.

i'm also having the same issues. just installed my turbo last weekend. i'm using a -3an feed line to my turbo, and at idle (warm), my oil pressure reads around 10psi, but at WOT, it reads around 45-50psi. i'm trying to figure out if this is normal or what...?? seems kinda low to me. i also checked my oil pan, no dents and no leaks at all.

IF the pressure goes up when you take the oil feed line off the turbo, then I have to wonder wether there is a problem or not.

Seems to me like it is just cause the turbo is "sucking" (cause I can't think of a better word) the pressure out????

the problem is that you are putting your pressure guage in a line that moves oil. You said it yourself, when you plug your turbo line its fine. I had the same issues before also, what i did this time was put a T right off the block, and ran one line to my pressure guage, and the other to the turbo. Now my pressure is normal. In my opinion your fine, i don't know whats up with your vtec though, you sure its falling out, and not something with your turbo/tune?

still having the problem. I have a b20/vtec jeff evans says something like you cant use brass tees for feeding oil to the turbo, head, guage. There alot of volume but not enough pressure for vtec. im wondering if the ge sandwich plate will make a difference.

i have the same thing going on now. rebuilt motor, has 1400 miles in it. it used to have 25psi on warm idle and 80+ at redline. as soon as i installed the turbo its 10psi at idle and around 50 at redline. 3an feed line with a .055" restrictor on my setup.

mobil1 10w30 and a mobil oil filter .
