Just got tuned...
I just came back from the tuners... my stock D16Y8 put down 204whp/181wtq @ 9psi, but I think we blew the head gasket. On the dyno, the coolant started bubbling out of the overflow container. I did a nice third gear pull on the way home and it did the same thing and the temp guage started to go up.
Did I blow the headgasket? Probably... what can I do to not let that happen again?

How many miles on the motor? is it the original HG? Search through the sohc HG threads. What was your timing at and what management are you using? Oh, and nice torque, you have the dyno plot?

Re: (nonvtecD)
sounds like your head was lifting. it happens to a lot of sohc guys. it was starting to happen to me too.
try getting some aftermarket headstuds and torqueing them to like 5-10 foot pounds more than the stock torque. i think thats what some guys are doing to alleviate the situation

I'm not sure what the timing was at... I didn't really have a chance to see. It was the stock head gasket, 100,000 miles on it so I'm not surprised. I'm using Hondata S200b with DSM 450's. Unfortunatly, I don't have a plot either... he is really only setup to tune there, not like a regular dyno... but believe me I asked.
I figured it was either sleeveshifting or headlifting, but I'm hoping for the latter. Just going to ARP the bitch when I get the new gasket. I'm still driving the car, it doesn't seem to give me any trouble when I'm not pushing 9psi. I have it set down to 6psi for now until I fix it.

Re: Just got tuned... (CycloneBlue_1.6EL)
So I'm going to order a set of ARP headstuds tomorrow, and there's some other items I want to get as well. I'm going to pick up a GE block guard from the same place (lightningmotorsports.com) and throw it in at the same time to prevent sleevewalking.
My question is this: Should I go with an OEM gasket... or get the GE headgasket? Right now personally' I'm leaning toward OEM.
