IMW-Tuned: Twin scroll EFR8374 + Stock K20Z1
I don't see a lot of activity on here these days, so here's something to add.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of tuning a client's '05 RSX-S. We had installed a Full-Race twin scroll, internal-gate EFR 8374 turbo kit on this car about a month ago, and he just got done putting some break-in miles on his new transmission parts.
At the time of install, we also upgraded his Hondata K-Pro to the latest "Version 4" board, and stuck a Continental fuel composition sensor in the fuel system for FlexFuel support/tuning. With this sensor, after tuned, the client can dump in any mix of gasoline and ethanol, and the ECU will trim fuel, ignition, and boost pressure to match. No changing tunes, no worrying about ethanol content.
I've been a big fan of these turbo kits for a while, especially in a space-limited car like the RSX. This particular combination matches great response, big power, and less complication compared to the traditional twin external gate divided T4 setups.
The setup is as follows:
100% stock internal K20Z1
Full-Race twin scroll EFR turbo kit
BorgWarner EFR 8374 turbo, T4, internal gate
RBC intake manifold
3" IMW-Spec exhaust
Walbro 450lph in-tank fuel pump
8AN feed, 6AN return
Continental FlexFuel sensor
Injector Dynamics 1,300cc injectors
Hondata K-Pro v4
The results:
563whp / 389wtq @ 19psi (75% ethanol)
484whp / 350wtq @ 16psi (93oct gasoline, 10% ethanol)
I would also like to note that it very well could have made 400+wtq on spool-up, but I don't like stock engines making 400wtq at a slow engine speed. For this reason, on the E75 plots, I induce a little boost creep with the boost solenoid.
All testing was done with the "medium" actuator supplied with the turbo kit, cranked pretty tight on preload (to start at a solid 10.5psi on the gate).
Thanks!
- Derek

19 psi is ~2.3 PR

I dunno if it's just me but from the looks of torque curve that turbo must be actually spooling insanely quick, bet it's a monster to drive.

Thanks for sharing Derek, been trying to see what these EFRs can do with Honda head flow. I know the Suby guys love em, but it's kinda apples to oranges with their greater disp. but less VE. That's awesome torque out of a stock 2 liter at such a low rpm with moderate boost. That .92AR IWG TS housing looks like a good compromise between spool and top end. I'm dying to see what a road race crx would be like setup with a 7163 and some custom grinds from DDTECH.

That's a different car. That one has a built engine, on C16.
It made 640hp/500tq last time it was on the dyno, with peak torque before 5,000rpm.

God damnit guys you're making me want an rsx so bad for the k(already have been wanting), if the swap wasn't so expensive I would get one for the teg.
