Garrett T3/T4 rebuild questions
I guess the main question would be where to get the rebuild kit from? When I got the car there was just wire mesh over the intake. The first thing I did was install an air filter but some damage had already been done. The turbo never failed but now that I am doing other things with the car, I took a good look at it and am pretty sure I should fix it before it does fail.
The pretty much open intake made a mess of the inlet so I had to clean that up.
There is a slight amount of play in the shaft and I don't know how much is allowable. You can see the amount by looking at the difference in gap between the fins and sidewall
Any help on a good rebuild kit would be appreciated.

Re: Garrett T3/T4 rebuild questions
So maybe if I write "I'm thinking of getting one of those kits from Ebay" someone will chime in with a response as to why that is a bad idea and where to get a good rebuild kit from.

I'd send that off to a local rebuil specialist if i was you and get it look at properly. Seach on google for one. I hate when people run those crappy wire mesh things, i can understand on a track car thats only got to last a race or two but on a everyday car its just a bad idea.

Re: Garrett T3/T4 rebuild questions
So after 4 days of soaking in industrial carb cleaner, scrubbing with a wire brush and repeat.... I finally got the turbo cleaned up. I am still going to buff the cold/compressor side but this is how it sits as of now.

Re: Garrett T3/T4 rebuild questions
I've had some friends buy the rebuild kits off ebay before. Most worked fine and some didn't go so well, but that might have been because they weren't put back together correctly and balanced well. I agree with rich that taking it to a rebuild specialist is the best way to go cuz they know what they're doing. Turbo looks good after the cleaning!
