Front bumper exit exhaust

Front bumper exit exhaust
I have been thinking about ordering a bumper exit exhaust. It'll be on my turbo '96 civic coupe with d16y8. I had a few questions if anyone here has this set up.
How loud/annoying is it and has anyone had any issues with wideband with such a short exhaust. I did find a few threads but they were just pics for most part, not too much info about it.

There is some pretty good info in this old thread about his bumper exit dp. There are also a couple videos in that thread too. I would imagine bumper exit would be less noise the an open dp because the sound isn't resonating off the bottom of the car.

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
it will be deafeningly loud. If this is a street car you'll have cops getting in line to pull you over. Also why do you want one? If this isn't a super high hp drag car then there's no benefit and it most states it's illegal to register a car on the street with an exhaust that exits in front of the drivers door. I know it is in GA... Mercedes ran into that issue with the SLR in a few states... You could buy it but couldn't legally tag it do to the fender exit exhaust.
Depending on where the wideband is you'll have reading issues. When the sensor is placed near the end of a pipe reversion causes fresh air to get sucked up the pipe skewing Air Fuel readings.
you'll hate it.. it's overly loud (more than open downpipe depending on diameter, length, and design), sounds horrible at anything other than WOT at high rpm, and you'll spend most of your time on the side of the road with cops writing you tickets left and right, eventually impounding your car

Not encourage this but in theory an E cutout could be added. That way you could run it closed most of the time. Doesn't help the O2 reversion issue but it would address the other issues.

I run an e cut out and love it for the most part.
I think having the wideband a foot from the exit is perfectly fine
Tons of cars run hood exit pipes and are running 8 sec 1/4 mile times

But do you think they burn up those wideband sensors often? I know the aem manual states the heat from a turbo setup can kill them if they're closer than 36inches from the turbo

I love my E cutout. I was speaking of the bumper exit being somewhat questionable. I realize lots of cars are running hood exit. I was thinking more along the lines of daily driver vs 8 second race car.

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
i used to run an ecutout. it was a love hate relationship. i loved opening it up and seeing the look on peoples face when they realized they were about to loose a race. i hated it when it would stick open and such which it did often until i flat out jb welded the motor to the frame.
i compromised and ran my dumptube out of the bumper. quiet when the gate is closed, fireball shooter when its open. i did it on purpose to scare the **** out of people walking on the sidewalk because i am an *******

When my downpipe broke, I was forced to run a an open downpipe.
I had a log manifold setup so the downpipe was maybe 12" of pipe straight to the ground. It's stupidly deafening INSIDE the car but outside it sounded like an old Nissan Hardbody diesel truck, not exactly loud, just sounds like an old shitty truck lol
basically
dont do it for the sake of your hearing OP

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
I know plenty of guys running an exhaust that exits forward of the drivers door and NOT under the car and the sound level is surprisingly low. Running a dump UNDER the car is incredibly loud.

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
I currently have open dp under the car and it's not too bad for a few minutes but after a while it gets annoying. There's no way it could be that loud in the car if it came out the bumper.
Blackeg, how loud is your car inside compared to like open dp?

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
dont get me wrong its still loud but compared to me ecutout that used to dump off the y pipe pretty much under the drivers right foot its much more tolerable. it also helps get those low oxygen **** exhaust gasses out from under the hood/car and far away from the turbo inlet

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
I'm running a passenger side bumper exiting ehaust on my turbo gsr and I love it. Yes it's louder outside the car but I was surprised how quiet it is on the inside. I have both the stock o2 and a aem wideband in the pipe and both are working fine.

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
i ran a hood exit in my hatch and it was suprisingly quiet while driving. the turbo was louder than the actual exhaust tone. now getting into boost was a different story, it was loud and i constantly smelled like raw fuel. my windshield could also never stay clean.

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
Before I built this turbo civic I had a 550whp ls1 Trans am and that thing had true duals dumped about the front seats, it was so loud about 5 minutes was all I could handle and smelled like a gas can lol

Re: Front bumper exit exhaust
Lol obviously you've never saw how packed the engine bay of a turbo civic is with ac and ps. And did you know that you don't have to only weld the exhaust you have to bend it as well douche bag. And a bender is way more money than the exhaust is.
