Default Engine build help **cylinder wall scarring** 56k maybe

Well I took my block (d16z6) to the machine shop to hone out for my new SRP pistons (std bore) they said I would be ok with the required piston to wall clearance with out going with oversized pistons.

after i got the block home and cleaned it up I noticed scarring around the top of the cylinder walls. the shop said something about it when I picked it up and thought it would be ok to use. (didn't make sense at the time) now it looks like my top ring is going to set in the grove. They couldn't take off anymore with out it being too loose. If I could avoid buying another set of pistons that would be great, if not its still cheaper than sleeving. thoughts?

they look like where the rings used to sit. They aren't machine marks are they? I didn't notice them before the block was honed.

the pics:

i agree that is the worst one. I cant believe that I would have missed that. I had 3 block to choose from and I picked the one with the best walls. thats why i thought it might be a machining error?

Looks like your rings were rusted to the cylinder wall at one time. You will have a smoking engine with bad compression if there is an indentation along with the marks on the wall.

pu tthe pistons up on the market place and rebore and hone the walls bigger to take that out, although that looks pretty deep. Surprised the machine shop let you walk out with that

yeah I am pretty pissed, safe to say I wont be going back to them.

it's just fustrating b/c I have been getting pieces here and there for over a year now, now I have to keep looking. At times I don't think this motor will ever get built

or

Yeah its not worth using something that may cause problems expecially when d-series motors are pretty easy to get, it will most likly be easier to get a new block and just have it re-machined then buying new pistons...

I'll have to have another shop check out my other block to see if its usable. I have a y8 block too, myabe I should just use that, but I wanted to use the z6 block and y8 head. good thought guys.
