Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
I am purchasing a new clutch for my turbo h22 and I would like to hear some reviews as far as drivability, clutch pedal pressure, current power, mileage.....etc. Any experiences and/or experienced opinions are welcomed.
NOTE:
I am not running a twin disk. I have a Comp Twin C in it now and its a bit on the annoying side to drive and completely overkill. I make 382whp/260wtq at its current state on pump gas and 450whp/360wtq on race gas. The throwout bearing i put in there was bad from the get go (one I had laying around the shop....blah blah) and if i am going to pull the tranny again, a new clutch is going to go in as well.
Thanks in advance

Re: Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
I have the stage 4 (6puck sprung hub) and I like it. I don't know I would recommend it for daily driving. Pedal pressure is a little stiffer than stock but tolerable, it is the drivability for daily driving I personally have a problem with. I guess you could get used to it though? My Civic is not a daily driver so I would say maybe someone who does drive on that clutch daily can chime in? I have 2k miles on mine and it holds like a champ. My car is 97 civic coupe with a turbo B18B putting down 254whp and 236wtq. After a re-tune on my bigger injectors (going from 500cc to 1000cc) I should be over 300whp and may have a different opinion.

i remember when cc was using **** for pressure plates, and when their customer service was out the window. i sure it was guy from nerk( josh) who had a nasty issue with their service, for a hugh issue. he made a nice long thread over it. that steered me away from them.

clutchmasters is what i recommend
i love my sprung clutchmaster fx400. its a little on the stiff side, but i also have a omni power clutch master cylinder. i make 413whp/ 236wtq on a clutch that prolly has 10k or more miles on it. i truly think its easier to drive a car with a stiff clutch/ pedal. i feel like i have a better feel for it.

I have a CC Stage 5 4 puck unsprung clutch with the extreme pressure plate upgrade I put on my integra last year, I've put maybe 700 miles on it and I have my motor apart again right now and the clutch looks practically brand new still. Did the proper 500 miles easy break in process. Has tons of life left. I havn't put many miles on it yet but it's going to get some miles put on when I finish my build. The driveability isn't too bad, Driving a unsprung stage 5 with a 7 pound flywheel on the street is going to suck but if you want a fast car you got to make sacrifices right?

Re: Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
If you have a twin disk now and you are crying about it - there is no way you are going to like the options you listed. CC has a bad track record for coming apart. Unless you want to tear back into it then find another way home pizza boy. In my opinion there isn't many options that are worth buying other than say an Exedy. You could always pick up a Hyper Single instead of a twin disc.

I have a 6 puck hub sprung from Competition Clutch. I've had it for a little over 2 years now. I love it, have no problems DD'ing it, and have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. Yes, the clutch pedal is a little bit stiffer, but that's just the nature of any upgraded clutch. It's held everything I've given it with absolutely no problems, and you can dump it, or drive it like your grand mother and it won't bat an eye. I'm fully planning to buy the same clutch for my next motor.

I used a b series CC stage 4 sprung hub with a resurfaced oem flywheel. never drove the car with the stock clutch in but it wasn't stupid stiff like an ACT or twin disk. chattered very little and only when the rpm dropped low enough taking off in first. perfect street clutch from my experience.

I used to run the CC4....it was fine overall. The engagement is a bit chattery at first, but then again, what pucked clutch isn't? The pedal pressure isn't overwhelming by any means...i drove it as a daily with no complaints (385whp/285wtq built GSR)

We use the CC4 for pretty much everything under 600hp/400tq.
400tq seems to be the point where they only last a couple passes. (Ask me how I know.)

So given my power range and torque, would you recommend the stage 4 or 5?
The max this build will see is 500whp once I put a short block in it after the stock block croaks.
Thanks to everyone who has replied, good and bad. I am planning on going back to a stock flywheel as well.

the best setup is a stage 4 sprung disk and the stage 5 extreme pressure plate. holds 560, and drives like stock. i know this for a fact.

Now I know it can't drive like stock lol. I just put a stock clutch in a car I did a swap in haha. I can't see a performance clutch feeling like that

Re: Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
agree with him. one clutch working on a b16 making 600hp might not hold on a H22 making 500hp not sure what the torque differant would be by im sure its a good no more.

Competition Clutch stage 4 here.. its tolerable, but I wouldn't want to daily drive it. It has a decent amount of chatter to it. But it holds very well.

Re: Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
I have been looking at reviews for nearly every clutch that would handle this kind of power and there are positive and negative reviews for everything. Everyones feeling of streetable is different, some people call different break-ins "by the book". Ive read many reviews that the pedal on the stage 4 was surprisingly not much stiffer than stock, then I have read that its really stiff so its hard to take opinions to heart. Just taking them with a grain of salt.

Re: Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
i'm 5'3 tiny short chicken legs...
if i can drive a cc4, you'll be fine.
when i had exedy stg1 i loved it. I freaked out about upgrading to a "stiffer" clutch. But honestly after like 10mins of driving I didn't notice it. 1st gear with any puck clutch is going to be more touchy, but it's not like that is the same process all the way to 5th....
I would dd a cc4 so long as I'm not stuck in bumper to bumper rush hour for more than 30mins at a time.... cause my leg would probably give out.
The cc4 i have in my ef now has about 12-13,000 miles
I bought it from a friend who made 350tq in his gsr turbo and he mainly dd & a few race events. I have about 2,000 miles on it... about 5-600 miles of those are abuseive miles
still grabs fine at 500whp/325tq

I have the stage 5 clutch unsprung but with a omni cmc.
My leg gets fatigued if I'm driving in traffic. It grabs really good at the track. Its a pain in the *** to drive on the street.

i have a stage 5. I honestly don't even notice the difference going from my integra with a stock clutch and right into the civic with that, from a pedal pressure point of view anyway. it just grabs a lot harder.
i had an action 2ks (dual diaphragm) and this is a breeze in comparison.

yea i had an action 2ks in my prelude for awhile. True definition of a calf breaker. broke the damn weld on the top mount of the pedal after about 10k miles.

Re: Competiton Clutch stage 4/5 Reviews?
It doesn't help that most manufacturers have different recommendations. Comp Clutch's "book" method is straight up granny driving for 500 miles, period. I've read other companies that only call for 200-300, and some that give different periods for different types of driving before you wail on it. It's just all over the place.
