b16 turbo intake manifold question
On a stock b16 turbo is it worth it or cost effective to use a thermal intake manifold gasket and port the intake manifold? Would I see any gains or should I just leave it stock?

Re: b16 turbo intake manifold question
the thermal gasket is always a good idea, doing anythign at all to the intake manifold is a waste of time. for a stock b16 im assuming 300whp range stock will do just fine

Re: b16 turbo intake manifold question
I agree with the thermal gasket although they dont do much for gains but do lower intake temps a bit. I always port match and polish my intake manifolds. Just gasket match the intake to the head and clean out all casting flaws and open up runners just slightly. I have seen 3-5whp just from doing this on B series Vtec and non Vtec motors, hey its free WHP all it takes is a little time. But if you are needing to remove the intake mani to do this really not worth it IMO on a boosted setup as the gains will be less.

Re: b16 turbo intake manifold question
those gaskets love to melt and distort, and end up causing vacuum leaks on cyl 4 and around the coolant square. the gains are not significant enough to justify it. imo they're dumb. and porting the intake manifold is retarded unless its a all out race car, you port the HEAD,not the IM, you DO port match the IM & TB....HEAD porting makes HP & will make gains, providing you have the supporting big boy mods already, example big CAMS but thats something you invest in towards the end when you already have all the other goodies. b4 i did any of that i would first buy a throttle body, minimum of 68mm and make sure you had the intake manifold and TB PORT MATCHED. that option will get better results for the money. however porting the intake manifold itself is pointless with a stock or small TB. on a turbo b16 you should be using skunk2's IM anyway, edelbrock is better fit for the b16's bigger brothers. i lost power an tq with the victor x on my b16, the skunk2 was better. vise versa for the b18's an 20's. its all about the runner length and plenum size VS displacement.

I've run hondata intake gasket on my old build engine that at one point so excessive high oil temp and coolant temps and nothing happend to the gasket

hondata does make the best one but I've seen them melt on turbo b series as well as on many many s2000's. its a decant amount of work to instal and it nets you about 2hp. to me it pointless but obviously thats just my opinion..... if i need HP its a push of a button away through truboost solenoid.

Re: b16 turbo intake manifold question
To me personally I see it more important to relocate intake temp sensor to charge pipe before throttlebdy rather than thermal break gasket because the manifold will still heat soak and give false intake temp readings. As a tuner I like correct intake temp readings

Re: b16 turbo intake manifold question
yea agreed i see more people welding a fitting on the charge pipe for that now. but for dudes that spent $1000 on a mill spec harness, nobody wants to modify the harness they are like works of art....but still the OP was turbo b16 IM gasket.... and i just don't see them on all out TURBO race cars and i just don't see the need. id put that money towards a blanket for my turbo, if I'm worried about temps.
