Is 11.8:1 CR too high for turbo?
Thinking about going turbo but i think 11.8:1 compression ratio is too high for turbo. The reason is that I don't want to build another motor. Anyone know the disadvantages of having high compression with boost? And would it fit in this space here? Or should I stick with NA....

umm you can only boost a certain amount.. you can drop the boost by getting a thicker headgasket but if you got the money you can do stand alone and tune it to the max potential at that CR.. but thats the only way i can see a "SAFER" way do not detonate just get a thicker head gasket and dotn boost much i say 5 to 6 psi at the most with the headgasket

its very possible to have forced induction on that engine. your only set back is that tuning will be a bitch and you have to run higher octane gas all the time. and stand alone would also help to combat detonation or any kind of bad things that could happen. or you could just replace your headgasket with a thicker one and that would bring down you CR. just my two cents

Effective Comp Ratio for this car.
Just examples.
11.8:1 @ 6psi = 16.6
10.6:1 @ 8.4psi = 16.6
10.2:1 @ 9.2psi = 16.6
Just examples.
11.8:1 @ 6psi = 16.6
10.6:1 @ 8.4psi = 16.6
10.2:1 @ 9.2psi = 16.6

hey tunning will be a bitch but look at what you get in return:
*way faster spooling
*much better/higher powerband with minimal boost
*much better power for daily driving!
well thats the way i look at it. It's really up to you.
I would only turbo it (IF) you had hondata or anyother standalone fuel managment, this would be practically impossible and would take forever to tune with the AFC hack & FMU method.

You compression is a bit high, but can be done. I ran 11:1 with boost for around 6 months. The powerband is broader, the torque is better, spool up is increase and overall the car becomes very driveable. Tuning isnt really that much harder than tuning low compression, you just have to keep a close eye/ear on how the engine responds to the changes you are making (checking plugs for detonation, etc). I personally wouldnt go with anything over 11.5:1 with boost, but it can be done. If i didnt buy my bottom end already built, I'd have 11:1 slugs in my block instead of 9:1.

At 11:1 Compression what turbo and amount of boost were you running?? And what were you hp numbers if you dont mind..

11:1 was in a b16a. I ran a t3/t4oe 57 trim .63a/r with stage 3 blade. I ran 8lbs on pump, 14lbs on race. Never made it to the dyno the entire time i had the engine in. I did all the street tuning, set it up conservative and just drove it. I would guesstimate that i was making around 270-280whp and 210-220 ft lbs on 8 lbs. Just a guess, but i am usually pretty close when judging hp and torque on the ol butt dyno.

Nice I hope to go turbo sometime next year as well. Probably do a big buildup first then turbo. Or visa versa. Not sure yet. But at least I can get an idea of some numbers..
Now I have an idea. Wouldnt the same turbo with say a .82 exhaust housing be more benifical since the CR is already high, maybe giving you better hp numbers with less loss to traction down low?
