engine balancing
is there a difference in balancing your bottom end rotary asembly? i have called 2 different shops one says i need to take them my crank, rods,pistons, wrist pins, rings, and bearings. well the other shop says to take them the same stuff i just said but they need the flywheel and the crank pulley and the clutch and pressure plate. now my question is which is better to do? wat is the difference in the parts they need to balance the crank? any suggestions? thanks

you will have to provide everything from the clutch assembly to the crank pulley. and everything inbetween to do it right

o ok then thanks and one more question wat exactly is the point off balancing? any power gains of doing this?

I personally don't have anywhere near the knowledge Earl had, but I have always had my balancer and flywheel balanced with my rotating assemblies and never had an issue with them. Balancing the crank and then throwing on a balancer that has not been balanced with it can throw off the balance of the crank.
If the balancer is doing it's job, it isn't "masking" ****, the rotating assembly all turns as one and since it's metal, it doesn't care how it's balanced as long as it is.
I have fought this battle with helicopters for years with guys, some who use weights, some who don't. I personally use weights and don't see it "masking" anything because my bearings in the heads I balance last a lot longer than those who simply get them within limits and stop because they can't get closer without the aid of weights and refuse to use them.
Balance the crank and flywheel with it. It turns with the motor, no point in not doing it.
