Thanks for sharing these shots with us here. Please continue to do so. I enjoy seeing some of the work. Whats the difference between the two sleeves in the first two pictures. I guess more or less the significance of the shape of the sleeve is what I am curious about. And are those in the same kind of block?

The first two are b series and the differance is the water channel that is cut in the top for a pocket of coolant directly on the gasket. It aids in several ways. One being it leaves stagnat coolant directly on the gasket as the factory open deck provides. Two, it decreases the total surface area that the clamping is distributed on creating higher clamping load around the combustion chamber leading to a better gasket seal. All of the blocks are also stepped decked to aid in clamping force and thermal expansion of the aluminum.

Interesting... your saying the block in the second pic will have better clamping load for the head gasket to seal? I would have thought the first pic would have the best head gasket seal do to more surface area it has for the gasket mating surface.

Nice work btw!

If X amount of pressure is pressing down on more surface area then the psi is lower. Same pressure less area higher psi of clamping load.

I start them by hand and a dead blow hammer then press 4 at a time till the flats are below the deck the. Press individually. Then a deck plate goes on till the temp. Equalizes to room temp.
