How many of you have done any research into wheel bearings?
Which brand makes the best wheel bearings out there?
Has anyone tried ceramic bearings?

No research but I had to replace the driver side 3 times, I think it was a hub issue. I went to autozone and got a timken. It has a year warranty on it and even after a year I can get another if it goes out. They seem to work decent.

When ever the hubs were off the car or we changed them out for other hubs I always had the bearings replaced. I assumed they (the machine shop) used whatever the parts guy delivered. The car always rolled very easy.

They are all good, even OEM would be good. Don't over think this. They are not like brake pads.

Not in any crazy application or anything but I wanted good quality parts equal or better than OEM.

MOOG bearings seem to be very good from my experience with them. I would recommend them for a higher quality than normal box store brands I think.

Again though my experience is limited to various normal applications I wanted good stuff in over the years.

I use National bearings mainly because they are half the price of the OEM ones. $70+ per bearing for OEM is just disgusting.

Timken and Moog have been around for a very long time. I do chose Moog whenever I have a choice. Been using them since the 1970's.

this may contradict some of what was said, but ive stopped using timkin bearings. i had a timkin on my drivers side go bad in just a few months. being a cheapskate, i went with the duralast from autozone. its been fine since. national also makes good bearings

animal house use to make good ones for hondas but don't know where they are at now. I think Performance Bearing can make a good set of ceramic ones. Never tried the performance bearing ones but animal house was great on my old race car.

For reference I have seen when orderd a MOOG hub assembly, it came with a National labeled box. Federal Mogul owns both companies and I would bet they share components across those 2 brands.

I'd even bet there are only a few places that make bearings, a lot of companies just re-package those the bearings in thier own box.

I remember there was a brand that Honda uses, I can't seem to remember, basically Honda buy's it and puts it in their packaging.

Not sure how often you guys have the car on the ground or roll it around with out axles in, but we've found that having no axles in the car will destroy the bearings even quicker, we now have spare end joints that we put back in during engine swaps, if the car is gonna be rolling around.

I have asked this questions before. I know a bunch of guys who drag race bikes and race dirt bikes. They have all experimented with ceramic bearings in the wheels. The drag bike guys say they are awesome for their bikes. The dirt bike guys said that the ceramic bearings seemed awesome at first but do not like a lot of impacts and tons of bumps which the dirt bikes see, and ended up going bad fairly quick.

I thought about this for the transmissions of our cars and for the wheels bearings. I have no experience with it and have never really heard anyone say anything about it much. If these cars were consistent enough to run the same times each time down the track it seems some data could be gathered, but it is almost hit or miss and the times vary several tenths, often. Also, not sure it is worth paying for nice bearings just for testing and then they go bad quickly.

i got ceramic bearing made.. they are deff nice. not cheap as mine were the first we did.
but u dont have to tighten the axel nut hard because of the way we designed them.

when we do wheel bearings at the shop, i typically make sure its a national bearing. Ive had way too many problems with koyo. had 3 bad bearings in a row on one vehicle. switched to a national and never looked back on any car that requires pressed in bearings.
