What Race Gas Do You Use?
What kind of race gas do those of you with the higher compression motors use..? I have a 13.5:1 compression B18C5 and am wondering what octane level gas I should use at the track as well as getting to and from the track... I do not have a trailer (as of yet) to tow my car to/from the race track and would like to know if they're any substitutions or possible additives I could use with our local 92 octane pump gas to help cut fuel cost when making the hwy trips to the track.
I've been researching all night where and who to get race gas from and I've came down to just asking this question on here from those who's had experiance with the stuff.... I'm debating what level octane is truely needed for my application... 110? 112? 116? What brand is better if any? Should I go with VP or Sunoco?? and where can I buy it? How much gas on average will I go through at each track event typically?
I've found this site and it kinda sounds like Sunoco is the company to go through.. though should I use Sunoco Standard? Supreme? or Maximum?? From looking at Sunoco's site (linked below), it kinda sounds like I could get away with there standard 110 octane fuel since it'll support 14:1 compression motors and super high revs..
http://hines.racingteam.com/HR...l.htm
Lastly... I live in Washington State and have no clue where to buy this type of gas from... Any suggestions?
I've listed my main questions for now in numerical order so it'll be easier for reader's to answer...
1: What octane level do I need to run?
2: How much fuel will I burn up per event (lets say 5 or so passes per event)?
3: What brand is better (ie.. VP C12, C14.. Sunoco 112, etc..)?
4: Lastly, Whats better Leaded or UNLEADED?
Thanks for looking! Any help would greatly help.

Thanks to VP, they supply me with plenty of C-16
C-16 is 117 octane with 6% lead contents.
Note* do not use cat's and my AEM wideband O2sensor is running great with the gas!

Does leaded gas have any other affects on the engine or it's sensors other than the cat? I have never used leaded gas before but w/the compression that my new engine is going to be I might run leaded gas on race days.

Leaded gas <U>will</U> slow your oxygen sensor's responce time over time, it's said in general that they'll last ~1/10th of the time but we still haven't had any problems killing our widebands doing a lot of street driving on leaded gas.
EDITED: when you post at 7:00AM after staying up late studying you forget certain words, well atleast i did...

14.5:1 compression
Turbo Blue Ultimate 118 octane
no O2 and my valve seats arent hardened so i have to run leaded fuel, but my car is a 600+ rwhp street car that guzzles gas at a great 6-8 MPG!

Re: (9SECQTR)
how big of drum should I buy to start off with... How many gallons do you guys use up at each race event? for example you get about 10 passes outta 5 gallons...
As far as highway driving... I have to drive 80 miles one way to the track, so I'd assume I'd need the same amount of gas as before to get there... ie... took just under 1/4 tank of pump gas to get to the track, so I'd assume it'd take 1/4 tank or less of race gas to travel the same distance... Does this sound about right?? I won't be able to afford a trailer until later this fall which sucks..

My uncles use that **** in their circle track cars and recommend it to me. it smells like alcohol. Its leaded, and it fucked up my o2 sensor (turned it bright silver and kept throwing o2 sensor code, plus it would make my AF gauge respond VERY slow)

Re: (JDM_JON)
i mix my own with 93 pump gas mixed with toulene or xylene and some MMO, i run 20 psi on the street and 25 in race trim and have little to no knock at top end. if your intrested ill see if i can dig my old mixing charts up and post them.
not sure how much hp she pulls but ive out ran a viper srt10 on the highway and ive beat a harley v rod from a 15 mph roll, at the time i was running around 16 psi and i wasent running my 3.5 inch down pipe that i am now.

Yes!!! Yes!!! if you could that'd be totally awesome... How much toulene or xylene do you add to every 1 gallon of Pump 92 Premium?? I'm very interested... LIke I meantioned earlier, my motors right around 13.5:1 compression (which sucks when there isn't the propper gas available locally). Also, who usually carries the toulene or xylene stuff?? Thanks..

Re: (erics99si)
I am in Wa. as well. The only race fuel I can get locally is Trick fuel. It is available at the pump so you don't have to buy a drum and risk it going bad.
