Re: What battery
I'd say run a normal size battery with a little more cca and locate it on the outside of that frame rail if you have space. I've never been a fan of the odyssey batteries but that just my personal preference

Re: What battery
I have used that Odyssey and an even smaller one on my DD/Auto-X car, and they are barely usable in the summer. In the winter, forget it. Humorously, if you want a small battery that is still usable, the 350cca lawn tractor batteries from Walmart are tons better than those Odysseys, and the last ones I bought a few years ago were $25!
I'm definitely going to swap one back into my car in place of the stinking PC680. . . There's no way I'd expect that to work on a high compression all-motor car.

Re: What battery
I went though two of the odyssey pc 680 last season, I would have changed it up the first time it died, but it failed a day before an event so i was stuck for time and it would have been a bit of work to re-locate a bigger battery somewhere else. It was primarily my fault that they failed, I would leave the car sitting for more then a week without disconnecting it and the voltage would drop too low.. there just too much of a pain in my opinion.
im probably going to try to use the smallest size optima I can find. The pc 680 dies very easily and quickly.. almost need to keep one of those trickle chargers that have overcharge protection on them on the battery at all times when you plan on having the car sitting for more then a week. Keeping it disconnected helps as well.
Blah.. Just my experience with the pc 680. Very 'tempermental' batteries haha.

Re: What battery
I've heard bad things about the Optimas. I think I'm going to put "swap in lawn tractor battery" on the top of my list for today since it continues to be so cold here. I've found I can let them sit in a car for weeks in the winter here and still have them fire up.

Re: What battery
Optima is a great battery, I use one in my daily beater that sits for weeks during our very cold canadian winters and has never had any issues. I don't drive my personal car often because my work vehicle is nicer and I don't have to pay for mainteance/fuel etc so I usually just use that. Hence the reason why my personal car sits for weeks sometimes during the winter.
I don't see why a smaller optima wouldn't work very well for a race car that still needs accessories wipers/headlights etc.
