Default Shift light or monster tach?????

we are having a shop debate.

Currently our 99 ek turbo car only has an Autometer shift light and a non functional OEM tach.

One side is saying that it is absolutely necessary to have a functioning tach for the track and the other side is saying that shifting off the shift light is just as good.

Im trying to avoid mounting a monster tach in the car, but will if there is an advantage over the shift light.

Personally I dont think you would ever really look down to read the tach so I am sayig the shift light is fine.

thoughts?

Personal preference i this matter. I personally don't look at my tach i shift off the sound and feel of the engine and car but some people look at the tach. Depending how fast the car is you may not even have the time to look at the tach unless you mount it up on top of the dash right in your face.

I don't use a shift light. Just the oem tach for a reference. Other then that its all by feel and sound. First and 2nd gear the light is going to come on right away anyways from spinning so you'll need to "feel" it. After that I always just glance at it.

Shift light and warnings lights, no gauges. If data is important it is being logged and can look at after run.

I've never been able to use a tach. Just for the simple fact I'm looking forward lol so I just used a shift light. It will always catch your eye

This. And obviously the quicker you are moving, the better idea it is to be watching the track (not looking down or having your view obstructed).
