RPI Racing... Stepping it up in 2005!
We all love pics
I just figured i'd throw out an update for you guys as to how our car is coming along. For those that don't know, we're building a car to compete in the 2005 NDRA Pro-4 Cylinder class, and we're planning on running a handful of NHRA races as well. The car is a 1990 Honda CRX, and it defiantely still has a lot of work left to do on it... heh. I'd like to first off give a huge thanks to Darin Dichiara, and John Ferguson for their help with this project. Also, my chassis builder Tom Lukans who is coming down from South Carolina to help us finish the car. With any luck, it'll be done in time for Arizona
First up is the new front end... a lot of people have seen pictures of the plug that i posted a long time ago, but the mold is now done, and this is the very first part to be pulled from the mold. This is just fiberglass, but the next one we're doing for the actual race season is going to be all carbon and kevlar construction.
Next up is the suspension... not much to show here, but we're converting to a Macpherson strut style front end rather than the original dual wishbone. Anyway, here is a jig i've set up that will hold the spindles so that control arms and strut mounts can be made. Big thanks to Tony1 for helping me with this setup, and Bret at Mark Williams for helping with the hub setup
Next comes the intercooler... this is being custom made from a core by PWR. Thanks to Mike Laskey for helping me get this core... if anyone needs PWR stuff, Mike is da man!
Still have to get the motor mounted before i finish the drivers side end tank though.
Last but not least, is........... da big gun
The G-Force trans should be a force to reckon with this year. With a few cars coming out with it, i think that everyone will be surprised with the versatility and usefulness of the tranny. One of the biggest things that caught my eye with it, was its true clutchless shifting... no need for an ignition interrupt to shift like the others. But anyway, the guys at G-Force have been extremely helpful with us on this project, and i look forward to running their transmission in 2005
Well, thats about it for now... hehe. Lots and lots of work to do. With the help i have here, this car should be up and running in no time... Many sleepless nights ahead of us though... lol!

Re: (ssc_thomas)
Thanks for the great comments guys There is so much more work to do, it makes me tired just thinking about it... LoL.
Vegas: The mani is made by me... it has to be modified heavily for this setup though. It is a one-off piece. As for the GForce cost, you'll have to contact them.
NFJohn: The GForce is normally air-shifted, but it has a cable shift option now. Neither NDRA nor NHRA allow air shifters in the Pro-4 or Hot Rod classes... only Pro-FWD from what i understand.
ssc: Thanks The manifold is a one-off item that i made for myself. I could probably be talked into making another one, but not until this car is finished and on the track... haha.

It looks like it is going to be a helluva chore puting that engine and tranny combination into that CRX.

I guess the question no one has asked, is what clutch are you using??? What Data aquasition are you going to run to manage the clutch?
