Prototype: new 3piece drag racing wheels
UPDATE: The wheels are already available. Thank you for the input on this thread.
Here they are.
STAR8 13x8 4" BS
STAR8 15x9 4" BS
STAR8 13x9 4" BS with Beadlock (sample)
OLD THREAD:
We’re developing our new 3 piece drag wheel and should be ready in a few weeks. I just need some input to see what direction we should go with to accommodate certain needs and ideas. This is not a for sale thread, just finding out what you are looking for. If this violates rules as an HT vendor, please let us know.
First of all, I just want to say, I appreciate all the support with your opinions and ideas. We want to be a wheel manufacturer dedicated to fulfill the needs of the sport compact racer. There really isn’t a company that focuses on our industry and we want to be that company. We know you have other choices out there and to the racers that have been using our wheels in the past, we greatly appreciate that you’ve chosen a company that’s 100% dedicated to the growth of our sport and our industry. We’re not a huge company but we’re doing our best to make a difference to the sport that we love to be part of.
Now back to the wheels. We initially had a plan to do our 1 piece forged Drag wheels first and introduce the 3 piece later in the year. Our plans have changed and we have held off the forged line since we believe the market isnt ready for that type of wheel yet. I was very excited about that, but the price range, the flexibility of sizes and applications would be limited. With the 3 piece wheel design, we can accommodate more applications, sizes and custom orders.
I know you all want to see the final wheel design, but we just have some prototypes that we can’t show at this time(by mid June, we’ll have production wheel pictures) I’ll just show a partial picture of the centers we have that we’ve been using to do test fitting on.
There are a lot of factors we’re considering so the Forged centers will fit different hub applications, brake clearance, etc.
I’m putting up information to answer some possible questions that may come up. What we’re looking for is input and other needs we may have not thought of already.
What we have planned for sizes and bolt patterns are these:
4x100
13x8 backspace 4 or 5”
13x9 backspace 4 or 5”
15x8 backspace 4 or 5”
15x9 backspace 4 or 5”
15x10 backspace 4, 5 or 6”
5x114.3
13x8 backspace 4 or 5”
13x9 backspace 4 or 5”
* 5 lug on 13" will have limited applications due to brake clearance, but can be made if requested.
15x8 backspace 4 or 5”
15x9 backspace 4 or 5”
15x10 backspace 4, 5 or 6”
Skinnies:
Matching 15x4” wheels will be available as well. I’m not too worried about that since clearance isnt much of an issue but we’ll have this size available at the same time the fronts are done.
Beadlock option:
We know this isnt going to be for everyone but we do have this option to all the wheels we’re making. They are custom order which takes 1-2 weeks to do. They will be a DOUBLE-BEAD Lock wheel. No single bead lock.
Custom orders:
The common sizes will be available most of the time are the 13x8 and 15x8. Custom sizes just takes about 2 weeks to do but if there is a need for sizes that we don’t usually have, we’ll start stocking them and be ready to go.
Most custom orders are on basic pricing. The only time it’ll be a true Custom price is if we’re doing something totally different such as 4x114 lug patterns and sizes that we normally wouldn’t do.
Wheel lug type:
We’re debating on having the acorn and washer/lug type nuts on the same wheel or have them specific to what you want to order.
Color/Finish:
All wheels will have fully polished outers and a polished forged center. Anodized centers will be available in the future or can be special ordered.
Pricing:
Competitive to other similar wheels out there. No set price at this time.
I hope that covered a lot of possible questions. What we’re really looking for is certain factors that we may have forgotten to look over. Please give us input on unique applications or setups that we should consider.
Thank you.

Looks promising Wil. I'm not in the market for wheels, but if I was I'd wait for these. They seem to be very adaptable which is huge if you want to swap them out later down the road.
Good job man!

I'm going to have to talk to you more about this later.
We do have the capability to do other sizes for Supras, etc, so its not a big deal. Just focusing on the main Honda/Acura for the initial release. Other applications will be out later.
Tepid, ya I wanted our wheels to be the next generation of wheels for our own cars. We've all used the other brands in the past, but to have something made just for our cars is our main goal.

What's the composition of the wheel assembly? What metals are used?

Re: Input thread: new 3piece drag racing wheels
The centers were a rough design that we're working on removing weight. Its not the final design. It was just done to check clearances, etc. Ya it looks thick, but its a work in progress. Its a 5 spoke but with a thick spoke design. Working on the final thickness of the spoke and possibility of just making it a 4 spoke for weight savings.
The 13x8 with the outers, this rough cut center piece, and the bolts are about 8.4lbs. In comparison, a Weld Import Magnum 13x9 from what I weighed last is 10.2lbs. I dont remember the Weld 13x8 but I think it was 9.2lbs.
We had an option to do a welded center but the interchangeability of the 3 piece was the direction we wanted to take. This lets us have more options available, easier to get done and less investment on our end.
The outers are same as other wheels, a cold spun aluminum shell. The centers are Forged alum.

Re: Input thread: new 3piece drag racing wheels
actually thats what we're planning to do. but we're still figuring out on the dual lug type hole pattern. If it was just either a conical lug or the washer type it would look better since its just 4 holes. but each racer likes using their own type of lug so we're still trying to figure out how we can incorporate 8/10 vs 4/5 holes and still make it look good.

Another application to consider would be the srt4's/neons, most of those guys are using kosei k1's, rota's and PT steelies, there really is no dedicated drag wheels for them.

maybe a 4x100/114.3 lug pattern could be made for those that have the '96 itr four lug and the preludes out there.
^6by that i mean a universal 4 lug pattern.

Make them strong so that they don't bend as easy as Bogarts do.
I swear the other day, I thought I was an X-Men because them suckers looked like they were bending when I was staring at them. LOL

Re: Input thread: new 3piece drag racing wheels
The production of the wheels are weeks away. We're pushing to get the final production wheels by beginning of July. Its just pending on some of those factors were trying to incorporate into the centers such as hub center size, and lug design to fit multi pattern lugs.
The custom stuff is what we want to do also such as the 5x100, 4x114, etc. We'll have the ability to do that with this wheel.
As far as the universal 4 lug pattern, we most likely not do that but just have a different center piece made for the 4x114.
Thanks for the input again guys. Have a safe holiday weekend.
