I run DSS stage 2 axles with 400whp more launches than I can count - had them for a long time and never one issue.

On the other hand I have seen a 190whp integra snap a set of DSS stage 2s, and saw a Bone stock integra with just Skunk2 cams snap a DSS stage 3 from a 1-2 WOT shift. So it just goes to show nothing is invincible.

If you dont launch properly you can break any axle

Go with DSS, buy 1 stage more than you "need", and you'll never have to worry about them.

A buddy of mine went through 3 sets of gator axles on a turbo type R (496hp).

It ended up being the way they were sitting due to his ride height.

Not sure if this was a gator problem or somthing that would have to any set of axles. Just fome FYI

The new DSS stuff is even more amazing then ever! The new level 2.9's are even stronger the the level 3's used to be. With the level 2's, they are a direct bolt in which is nice for the people that were making the power and needed the level 3's like before.

your FYI is fairly valid. the so called "stage 3s" that i broke were even on my car with my motor tilted to help alleviate the misalignment issue.

If you are worried about breaking you axles just do what gator does. Buy stock parts stick them in the oven for awhile call them "heat treated", spray paint them green put a couple stickers on them and charge people way to much for STOCK PARTS!

<--- Just bought DSS stage 5's

agreed. shame on you people who try to compare gator garbage to DSS.

i rock the old stage 5's, but from what i hear the new 5.9's are tuff..

...contact Miller or Big Tom on here for unbeatable prices on DSS axels.

we broke 2 gator axles, first on the driver side, then on the passanger side. H22a with type-s pistons and a 125 shot, still at stock height too. Didn't even get off the line. Still have the gators but i will not use my radials on the car untill i get a trailer. If they break again, hello DSS.

I use DSS and I only broke them one time out of 4 passes.I have 44PSI at 846WHP H22.The DSS are for sure strong.I never used the Gators but Ill try them out next and see how much abuse they can handle. It also depends if what size slick and pressure U use.I went from 24.5 to 25 and at 25,U start to break ****.U can use 24.5 by 9s and U should be okay from 500-700WHP.It all depends on your set up.Every set up does something different and depends on how stiff your suspension is.Good Luck.Darrell

DSS does not even compare to gator. We use DSS in many of our customers cars without problems. We had a few customers using the Gator stuff and in the end ALL of them broke.

I highly recommend any of the DSS stuff.

I've been running the same set of DSS Stage 1's through two setups over the past 3 years now.

I've only got a couple passes on slicks on them, but I beat the snot out of them daily.

This is interesting. I was looking to buy axles, and one of the local racers
told me never to buy DSS. He had broken a few sets of stage 2's, and had gotten fed up, switched to Gator, fine since. I bought based on his experience, and have been fine with mine on slicks so far.
Hopefully I don't experience any problems.
Really wish I had known about the canadian guy, would of tried him first.
Good thread.

You have to look at the whole picture. The stage 2's have been discontinued and are now 2.9's. Also, maybe he was doing something with them he should have have been or even running them on more hp/tq then they were rated for. Either way, good luck with the axles you have bought

I had 2 dss stage 4's break center shafts like this, for a 2g set of axles I was unimpressed, 2 seperate cars in the same week. Now I only use axle systems, for $500 the refurbished the broken pair to their stage 4's, which use stronger shafts and internals and they're pulling strong.

Not that im knocking DSS or anything, they do make a nice product. But for the cheaper price of the axle systems set i will be sticking with them unless the let me down repeatedly.
