Default Ek SFWD never ending build.....

I have had a build thread over on K20a.org for a little time now. I figured i would share my this with you guys.... hope you enjoy.

I've had this car for a few years now and it has started to evolve into a decent car . Still have a long way to go to get it the way I want .

98 dx hatchback with 2000 front end .
Car used to be allmotor car before I got it.

When I got the car I had put in my swap from my ep3 turbo build . Simple setup really .
K20 86.5x86
9:8 wiseco , eagle rods 6262 setup made 620 on q16 before I parted it out and started my newest build .

Before i parted ways with this setup i ran a PB of 10.03@128 breaking 4th gear ......

Finally got tired of that setup so I parted it out and began a new 6766 t4 setup. Bigger everything . New turbo setup and new fuel setup. Better internals . Goal was 900hp.
K20a2 86.5x86 GE sleeves
Stock port head
T4 6766 1.15ar
Excessive center feed
Id2000
IPS kt1-cams
Wiseco 11:1
Manley turbo tuff rods

I had recently bought a tig welder and started learning on my own stuff . Not the greatest welds but they would be decent enough to work. It's always nice to know you built everything by hand. I always hated having to pay someone to do the work for me ...

First dyno sesh went alight ended up just barely squeezing out 700 for I ran out of fuel... Needed to re route my fuel lines and move regulator to after the rail. Had it setup regulating before the rail so it was sucking it dry ....

First pass on my new setup I need up breaking the final drive and cracking the trans case ....

Instead of spending a few grand I opted to go with a gear X 4.3 final drive and since my 3/4 gear was still stock I decided to buy gear X 3/4 also . For $1200 in a FD and a 3/4 gear set you can go wrong ..... atleast i thought so..

Ratios:
1st- 2.61 (ppg)
2nd- 1.61 (ppg)
3rd- 1.30 (gear x)
4th- 1.08 (gear x)

Tuner is out of state so tried to re tune to car locally via remote tune and on the first pull I popped the intercooler to pieces .... Lol this was some of my first welds so I was not suprised that this happend...

So decided to fix it the right way and while I was at it I changed one of my lower cold piping .

Good news came when time to re tune the car . Made 761 @30 psi . Had to stop there . Wastegates wouldn't stay shut . Need a stiffer spring or a 4port boost controller .

First track day . The goal was to finally break into the nines . Deff got plenty of power to do so.

When I bought the gear X gears the only ratios that had were slightly shorter than my OEM gears . I didn't think that would matter to much cause I was swapping the FD out for a longer gear went from 4.7 to a 4.3. Figured it would kinda equal out . Lol I was totally wrong . Even with my running the car up to 10k I was just barely making it to the finish line in 4... Super short . Gear were holding me back big time ...

First hit off the trailer was just what we wanted .....

Ended the day with a 9.85@151

Here is the same pass, Semi finals at local event

Went to track a few weeks later to better my times and did just that , still in those super short gears. This time gave the lower gears more boost and my short track got better. As my short track got fast my 3/4 gears got even shorter .... Got to the point now where 4th is done just as soon as I shift into it . Ran a new PB that day of 9.69@147 bounching off the limiter from about the 1000ft marker....

Here is the 9.69 pass

Finally made my self work on the car . I cut the old mild steel cage out and have been getting it ready to go to the fab shop for a 10pt chromoly cage with parachute mount . Let me say this ... If you ever do a cage your self , make damn sure you do it right the first time. Cutting this cage out and grinding the welds down was a pain in my *** .....

Got this guy in the mail the week of christmas . Upgraded TDAutowerks lower timing gear . After finding that when my motor was miss shifted the sudden rpm jump caused my stock oem unit to break. lucky for me the motor didnt jump timing . This new lower gear has not only the locking dowel on the back but a extended keyway built into it .

Old broken gear

New TD Autowerks gear

Decided to change up the plan on what turbo i will be running. Previous turbo was a 6766 made good power with a pretty decent power band. Im looking to make more power on the same boost level. also i have a goal of one day running in the 8's. That 6766 wont get me there without running 8000 psi of boost.

I borrowed a friends turbo just to mock up and make sure it would clear with my manifold . I was iffy about the size of the comp housing hitting my head. The turbo clears perfect and looks sexy as hell on there!

Installed new shifter springs w/new hammers and my upgraded motor mount inserts.

Bought the car with the mounts and didn't realize how soft the mounts were till I started making power. Motor would move like crazy !! Mounts were the softest they offered at 62a I bought the 94a race inserts . Maybe these will help with my 60' to come down.

Got this bad boy all the way from CALI , No more 1-2-1 shifting for me....

I made a custom cluster as well..... not sure if im happy with how it sits may remove 2 guages and put them elsewhere but none the less it looks decent. Will eventually replace the oil pressure and water temp to match others , i had those laying around already.

So Finally got the head from KMOD after 5 months of the head not being worked on and having every excuse in the book, after filing a claim with paypal they got the **** finished..... The port work looks good for being hand ported. The head and intake was supposed to be port matched..... well i put the intake on the head and its not even close.

Intake is centered with mounting holes and as you can see its off . I messaged Kmod about the work , he claims the ports are matched and that I need to drill my mounting holes out bigger so that they line up.... Why in the hell would i want to do that?!?!?!?!

I think its total B.S that i paid good money for work to be done and when i get it back im having to rework the head or intake to MAKE **** WORK.... They obviously did not put the intake on the head to check and see if they lined up....... After this whole experience with KMOD i will not be dealing with them ever again.

So yesterday was pretty good. Got some things done to the car. Started removing some of my old crappy wiring and thinking of ways to re do everything. Installed the willwood break master cylinder and my Clutch master , Got the bulkhead fittings in firewall and re connected the brake lines.

I ended up buying a Race spec switch panel from xenocron and i plan to make a plate with a fused distribution block . Gonna make a semi race car harness.

also got the rear half of the interior cut and installed. It was a tight fit with the cage , there was some trimming involved to get things to fit properly...
