Re: Break-in the twin dics clutch.
I know this guy.. He´s a friend of mine and I have helped him out alot..
The reason he is asking is because he was going to swap tranny and descovered that the kevlar disc on the CM fx600 was all chipped out and basicly done.. He got new discs for the new tranny and we would like to have the new discs to last better then 1000 hard streetmiles and 10-20 lanches.. I´ll see if we can get some pictures up. The floater disc, pressureplate, flywheel and second metalic disc all seems normal.. Some colors from heat but smoth and streight. Some splines in the clutch discs was slightly deformed and had the shape of a sharkes fin. We did not noticed anything wrong with the clutch before we pulled the tranny. A pedal stop was made with the original clutch install.
It is a 89*84mm gsr, pro 1, 67mm garret makeing 622whp and 440tq at 26psi and revs to 9-9500.
The only thing we can think of is that he broke it in an hour or two with calm city driveing. Not for 500 miles that is recomended for kevlar clutches.

Twin Discs are meant for Race cars...you either got unlucky with that clutch or there was something wrong with the install. Only two real possibilities that it could be...

I have to mention that my post was reffering to using a metallic twin disc. If it is made from kevlar, it really needs some miles put on it.

Chris, the onlyy clutch i "broke in" was the one that started slipping at 300whp on the EK!! All Others had ZERO miles. lol

I have had them slip during the burnout and just about burn the clutch up from no type of seating process. I have even seen someone weld the discs to the friction surfaces. Not once have I seen a problem after doing a few slips before running the clutch. Trust me, do a few short slips in the pits before you run it.

you will be fine. just throw it on the dyno. I did that last year with my stage 5 clutch and i plan to do that with my CC twin disc laster this summer
