New 86 Honda Accord DX
I had a 94 Saab 900S and it had an engine fire that destroyed the car. I stumbled upon a 1986 Honda Accord DX 5 Speed w/ 122k original miles. I ended up snagging it for $550. The car runs great considering its age. One of the issues that the car has is that it has a few rust spots. The rust is pretty bad behind the gas cap. After driving the car for a little I noticed a few things will have to be fixed. Just for preventative maintenance, I am gonna do the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat soon. I have noticed that the temperature gauge fluctuates a lot. It will get hotter when the car is sitting. Luckily the cooling fans kick in and there is no overheating. I guess I am not used to it. When driving at speed, the temp gauge will read closer to the C mark.
Things to fix
Timing belt
Water pump
Thermostat
A/C (not working..maybe a dead compressor? )
P/S (Empty reservoir makes me believe there is a leak somewhere)
Tuneup
Battery (Looks like it came with the car when it was purchased)
Cruise Control
Head lights (They are so dim that you have to use the high beams in order to see normally @ night.)
Brakes (Vibrate/ Shimmy when pressed at higher speeds)
Rust (Especially on driver's rear quarter panel and hole in trunk)
That being said, driving the car was a blast. It had lots of pep for an older vehicle. Figured I'd just stop by and introduce myself. Looking forward to being a regular around here!
