Right now my deck only has front and sub outputs. I need FRONT and REAR outputs. Im looking for something that looks really sweet. Which ones should i take a look at? I've been looking at the new Kenwood Excelon KDC-X817, what do you guys think?

Im not looking for anything too fancy, i just need the front and rear outputs. Looking to spend around 300 or a bit more. These days, all decks at that price sound pretty good so basically im just looking for something that looks really nice. Any suggestions?

I would suggest anything by Pioneer or Kenwood . . .if your willing to spend 300+ you should be able to get a wireless remote too. . .I'll throw some nice decks at ya. . .let me get some pics.

It is all in what functions you want I prefer the excelon line that Kenwood makes.
it has 3 RCA outputs Front, Rear, and a non-fade....the non fade is nethier front nor rear and that is what you hook your subs up to it also has a non-fade shut off button. The display is awesome on them too.. I had a "99" 818 or something like that and I loved it (To bad it was stolen) Im going to replace it with the 2001 version..........

I have the joy of living about 1 hour away from the Kenwood outlet sore in atlanta.
If you get the last year models you can get it for a whole lot cheaper.
I got mine for $300 retail is $550 in crutchfield....

I have the Pioneer deh-p7200 and it doesnt sound good enough for me. I need more power, i especially need the front and rear outputs! So do you guys know the exact date when the 2002 models are going to be released?

If you can wait about a month-to-two, there is some crazy stuff coming out. Sony is introducing a headunit that has a true color screen (just like a laptops) in a single DIN. Not to be confused with those that have 7" motorized fold out screens. This is a regualr DIN model, but the whole screen is color. You can upload pictures and MPEG movies to it via MemoryStick. Kenwood is introducing more simple color screens and also Organic OEL that Pioneer uses. The simple color screen Kenwoods are very smooth. Alpine has I believe 7 of it's new 9 headunits using MP3 decoding. Their top model the CDA7998 has a 1.3 DIN faceplate in a 1 DIN size headunit. It does this with a new Phantom Face system. If you want to go ***** out, Clarion has a single DIN 7" motorized fold out screen/radio/DVD player/CD player/ MP3 player comng out! The big news with this one is that it is all self contained as opposed to Pioneer and Panasonics current DVD players which need seperate "brains" to control all functions. The ease of installation on this peice will be as easy as any regular radio. Thats just some of the new stuff coming out for 02'. We just got all the manufacturers new catalogs from CES.

I just saw that Sony deck you were talking about and they look pretty tite. Actually they had a couple of new ones coming out and both of them looked really nice. Kinda expensive though. Im still waiting to see what the new Kenwood organic display looks like.

The Clarion Joyride (AutoPC2) came out a while ago.. although it hasn't hit retail shelves.

forget kenwood and the autopc. the kenwood decks suck. best decks out right now are pioneer or sony. the sony xplod mobile es series are great. i have one it has more preouts than i know what to do with. most of the excelons ive worked on have had the motor get ed up and the face gets stuck. forget motorized faces. nothing but a gimmick. the pioneer deh-6400 is sweet deck. it has 2 sets of preouts and the sweet el display with motion. pluse pioneers come with on board EQs.

I believe that everyone has their own opinions on what deck is better than an other. However, that person might of had a bad experience with the certain company they are bad mouthing. In my experience the best deck out there is the best deck you can afford to purchase and has the most features for your dollar. I would wait for 2002 models to arrive but, if you require a deck immediately. I would suggest you but something that is MP3 compatible, has 3 pre outs Front, Rear and Sub. Try a get a deck with a least 4V preout voltage. Then pick a deck for its looks and what you want. Every deck is somewhat similair in a way. They all provide a source unit for your music to be played.

Kenwood Excelon sucks? What?? No way man. Kenwood is badass, i love their decks. I've had the Sony Xplod, Pioneer and Kenwood Excelon in my car, they were all great decks. Honestly, they were all about the same. Alot of my friends have the Excelon and they've never had a problem with the motorized faces getting stuck or anything like that. All of them have the same features, it's mostly about the looks. But if you're gonna purchase a deck, i'd go with one of those 3 brands.

Just for reference, all companies are offerning at least a few MP3 models for 02'. Expect the pricing to drop. There will probably be about 3-4 times the amount of headunits to choose from in 02' that offer MP3.
