Default Past owner of car had alarm system..

Well, bought a USED GSR couple months ago - seems the car has an alarm, any way I can tell what kind of alarm it is and how I can actually activate it myself? When I disconnect the battery and connect it back in the siren goes off, I have to get in the car and turn the ignition on to get it to turn off - my doors unlock when I turn the motor off and lock when I turn the car on, don't think that is normal for Integra's? I didn't get anything far as alarm goes from the guy I bought the car from.. but wouldn't it be silly to buy an alarm system if I already have one?

I don't suppose that there is any chance you could ask the previous owner?

If you are not sure who it is, you could run a carfax report which I believe would show the past owner. I can't run a carfax report, but if you post the VIN I am sure somebodyhere could run it for you.

No matter how the temptation to leave well enough alone....get a new alarm!!
Would you leave your door unlocked and the keys inside the ignition?
Prob not...but anyone who buys a car used and leaves the present alarm
system installed does just that. You really don't know how many transmitters
exist for that old system...let alone old keys. Think its a far fetched idea?
I know of one instance that a pal of mine purchased a car from a local
dealer..it came with an alarm. After about a month...it was "stolen" from a mall
parking lot.... by the former owner's ex-girlfriend!! She had kept a set of
keys and transmitter and was bent on getting even with him. You should have seen the look on her face when she realized that it was not "( insert fave homeboy name here)" car. Lets just say it was like watching Jerry Springer live. She still would not belive that her ex( who was there...hey baby mama drama ) had sold his car until we showed up with the sale paperwork at the local police station.

Sorry for the long story....but you get the idea. Work in the biz long enough
you are bound to come across a few.

there is a much easier and cheaper way than getting a new alarm!
go to your local stereo shop have them check out the system find out what it is and then order two new remotes, while you are waiting for your remotes it is a good i dea to have your alarm disabled, once you get your new remotes have the shop reset your alarm and all previous transmiters, and program the new ones you just bought. you will pay depending on alarm 15-50 per remote and probly nothing to program if your frinds with the guy, i useally do programing for free keeps the costomer happy and they will almost always come back

hope this helps you better

if you in the northwerst hit me up and i will get you all set up

Well thats a great way to provide customer service...But I still stand by
my original statement....Get a new alarm period. With the cost of the
average security system with keyless coming under $300.00
installed its becoming a no brainer. Here is the potential problems.

A. Disarm/disable the system: Makes sense...but leaves the car
naked and unprotected. If you drive a rust/primer project ( I do )
this may work...then again maybe not. Thieves are a wierd bunch.

B. Order a new remote/code new ones: Another great idea...if you happen
to carry the product lines or fall under the almighty DEI banner. But what
if the product is something you don't carry? Sure you can order
the remotes (maybe if your lucky),but how long will it take? See A.
When they get there hopefully they will work or be the right ones. (been there
done that. )

There are others but why go into it...Not trying to bust yours, but there is
a lot of confusion out there and peeps always want to take the cheap
way out. Say I program new transmitters and delete the old codes...
buit don't disturb the over ride circuitry...is your car safe?...NO!!!
Lets be real....every day someone post on here car was stolen...
vandalized...jacked. In many cases..sorry to say...the owners
could have prevented the incident by being proactive instead of reactive.
Just a thought.....

Don't get me wrong the BEST case would be to replace the whole system, but there are alot of guys/gals that cant afford to fork out 3-400 for a new alarm thats worth a ****, ya you can go down to schucks and get yourself a " top of the line " two wire remote (wish i could have one of those!!lol) i myself have a 400$ alarm in my ride and it would be extremely harder and spendier to reinstall a new alarm, yes you must relocate the "valet" switch or add a "ghost" switch me personal, i have shaved handles and i am the second or third owner of the car yes i must replace the HIDDEN POPPER but i must as well change the valet code but my alarm has a plain view coded valet switch not my favorite idea but hey it might not be the only thing you gotta hit huh?? lol , on an old customer's car we rigged a ignition kill so that you could get in and start the car but you must hit the left blinker for 3 blinks before it would disarm the ign. kill prog, if not the car would run for a min and then shut off and would not restart till you armed and then disarmed the system and once again you had to hit the blinker, what a pain in the *** it was but the car never got stolen in the four years she owned the Civic Sedan lol car is long gone now thats the only reason i am releasing this info. on the a note i agree you should always replace the alarm but if its not cost effective its just as safe to do a complete reprogram on the existing system...
damn my hands are tired now!!!

g-night y'all
