Default How to find bad component on guitar amp circuit board?

I got this guitar amp and it powers up but it wont produce any sound.I was told a mp3 player was hooked up to it and it was turned real loud and then it stopped producing sound all of a sudden. So I'm guessing a component on the circuit board was blown. So what I want to know is,can I just bypass the circuits by directly connecting each end of the diods and such?I'm not very experienced with circuit board repair so bear with me .Also I know its not the speaker thats bad.

Yes, you can bypass the circuits (amplifier, EQ, whatever else is on the amp). From your description, it's impossible to tell what happened. It could've just blown a fuse (unlikely to have more than one fuse, so that's probably not it), the preamp fried (likely), or the input and/or output stage(s) of the amplifier fried (possible). The speaker could also be bad. There's no way to tell without more info.

Well I used a tester light and found that one side of the board has no power. Its on the same side where the input is at.So maybe the input stage is bad.

it would really help if you had the schematic. Check the diodes and transistors and the fuses if you have no schematic to go by. Diodes are easy to check, conduct one way do not conduct the other. Transistors are a little tricky, you need to check gate, source, drain continuitys google that it will tell you which way you should expect the continuity to be between the three legs.

post a picture of the board and stop using a tester light absolutely useless on an amplifier. Unless your goal is to blow more stuff up.
