Best way to wire up system? ASV?
Ok so I have two Audiobahn 12"s. I know I know, a lot of you hate Audiobahn, but it's what I got.
Anyways here's the specs on them:
12" 500 Watts RMS Performer Subwoofer
60 oz. Strontium Magnet
Power Handling: 500 watts R.M.S.
Frequency Response: 25Hz - 800Hz
Efficiency: 92.9 dB
EPDM Rubber Surround
Molded, Texture Injected Poly Cone
2" 4-Layer ASV Voice Coil
Dual 4 Ohm
2 Ohm or 8 Ohm Operation
Mounting Dimensions: Depth; 5 1/16" Hole; 10 7/8" Diameter; 12 1/2"
Lug Lock Terminals
I also have a 900 watt mono Rockford Fosgate amp. Heres specs:
150 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
requires 10-gauge power and ground leads and a 30-amp fuse wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
selectable 50-250 Hz variable low-pass crossover, 12 dB per octave
TRANS"ana circuit designs keep voltages low and signal paths simple in the pre-amp section, for minimum distortion and maximum musicality
MEHSA provides more efficient transfer of heat from MOSFET output devices to the heatsink for cooler operation
TOPAZ noise-killing differential inputs that eliminate 80% of ground loop noise
NOMAD advanced protection circuitry for "intelligent" shutdown protection
preamp- and speaker-level inputs
selectable Punch Bass boost (0/6/12 dB at 45 Hz)
frequency response 20-20,000 Hz
11-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D
Ok first of on the subs a lot of sites say ASV voice coil, what is this? (it has the double connectors, so it's a DVC)
Second whats the best way to hook these up. I have the DVC's on each sub wired together, then each sub connected to the amp. Is this right? It's hooked up like this:
DVC1 + to +
DVC1 - to -
DVC2 + to +
DVC2 - to -
So is this the best way to have these hooked up? This way I am running a 2ohm load right?

Re: Best way to wire up system? ASV? (Concept Tuning)
Three things, you are way underpowered, 2 500W "RMS" subs is 1000W of continuous power handling, you have an amp the makes 300W RMS into 2 ohms, [you do not show a watts @ 1 ohm, so I assume the amp is not stable below 2 ohms] and it looks like you have paralleled the VCs, 4 and 4 in parallel is 2 ohms and the you have the subs wired in parallel, 2 and 2 in parallel is 1 ohm, the amp is saying "hurt me hurt me".
Even if you had 2 of the amps, [one for each sub] you would still be underpowered by 200W for each sub.
If the amp is not stable below 2 ohms your only option is the wire the VCs of each sub is series, [8 ohms] and then wire the subs in parallel, [4 ohms] or the other way around parallel the VCs, [2 ohms] and series the subs, [4 ohms] but then you are looking at only 150W rms into 4 ohms, driving a 1000W continues sub system, the subs are saying, "hurt us hurt us" and the distinct smell of burning VCs is not long off. 94

Maybe thats the weird plastic smell I get after it's turned up a bit
Dang this blows. So what do I need to do? I hate to just dump this amp, it's really a nice amp. SO if I get another one the same size it will work ok?
Or should I just get a Hifonics amp?

Wait I'm confused. I have two subs hooked up to a 300watt rms amp. SO wouldn't 300 watts rms be going to each sub? How does that work when you have two subs hooked up.

Re: Best way to wire up system? ASV? (Concept Tuning)
Ok another question. I found a amp that says 500watts rms X 2 @2ohms
So that means 500 watts RMS for each channel (it's two channel) or 500watts rms for both channels combined?

Re: Best way to wire up system? ASV? (Concept Tuning)
OK a few more things...
Yes that smell is probably the VCs over heating and burning up, it could also be the amp if you have it loaded down to 1 ohm.
Sell the amp to your G/F?
If it says 2x500W RMS into 2 ohms then it is a total of 1000W RMS and would run the subs alright, although a mono block sub amp that makes 1x1000W RMS into 4 ohms would be better, or even 1x1000W into 1 ohm would work, [4 ohms would be better] 94

The amp will run a lot cooler at 4 ohms then at 1 ohm even if it is stable at 1ohm, THD will be lower response is more "linear" among other things, [cleaner, tighter more accurate sub bass response]. 94
