Default Adding an Additional Cigarette Lighter to a 2006 Honda Accord VP

I got an Auxiliary adapter for like $45 from eBay.

My Honda Accord VP only has one 12-volt outlet in the center console right above the shifter and its getting annoying to use a 4-way splitter that I got from Amazon.com whenever I need to use my GPS.

I know that other models have an additional outlet in the arm rest.

Does anyone know if there's an easy way to install another 12-volt outlet into that arm rest area?

I'll probably route the auxiliary cable as well into the arm rest area so that I can keep everything hidden and not have loose wires exposed for the eyes to see.

Why not hard wire it? That way you have everything hidden and your cig lighter is always free. You can add a small connector at the back if you need to swap it betweren vehicles.

I ended up pulling out the center console lighter underneath, and connecting it to a 4 way splitter. I then routed it underneath the coverings into the arm rest.

It was exceptionally easy and didn't require me to do any rewiring.

In the arm rest, there's a little piece where the lighter usually goes into that's easily removable. I made a little notch so that I could pull the wires through it.

Awesome :]

Now that you have 4 things drawing current from the same source, you may end up blowing a fuse at some point down the road. What kind of things are you plugging in here? Just realize that putting in a large fuse is not the best solution if this should happen. The wiring should be upgraded...

I bought this item:

http://www.amazon.com/Wagan-EL9139-1...0206557&sr=8-1

It supposedly has a built in fuse.

You have that wired to your factory plug, which is also fused. What I am saying is the factory plug is fused for a certain amount of current. When you plug multiple things in you may draw more current, and blow the factory fuse. If this happens you should upgrade your wiring to handle more current, not just install a larger fuse.

What are the risks if I leave it as is?

The wire could get too hot and catch on fire? Or would I blow a fuse before that would happen?

Wouldn't the fuse blow on my 4-way adapter blow before the factory fuse blew?

None really at this point.

No, the fuse would (should) prevent that from happening.

That depends on the rating of that fuse, as compared to the factory fuse.

Your setup right now is fine, what I am saying is IF you start blowing fuses later do not just put in a larger fuse.
