Default Round 3: Aztec Green Pearl EJ2 Coupe -94! OEM Goodies

Well, what can i say...

My new precious; Almost bone stock EJ2

When i bought it, it had:

- D15B7
- Koni Yellow damping adjustable suspension
- Stock front swaybar
- Some Anzio alloy wheels
- OEM-electric sunroof
- OEM-electric adjustable headlights
- OEM-electric adjustable mirrors
- OEM Central Locking

Strange things:

- Poorly installed damping mats.
- EG Sedan mirrors, wires cut off? Mirror fitment is horrible due the 4D mirror bases.
- Drivers side window wasnt in the rails, there was some shitty fixing job that has caused the window mechanism to stuck and bending the "scissors".
- Basic wiring work.

Edit: Current progress:

- OEM EG/EJ Parking Pole (BNIB) /Installed
- OEM Optional 2DIN Audio Console (BNIB) /Installed
- OEM JDM Optional 1 DIN Bronze door pocket /Installed
- OEM Civic 92-95 JDM Optional Stainless Steel Door Sills /Installed
- OEM Power Folding Heated Side mirrors /Modded to LHD & Installed
- OEM Power Folding Heated Mirror Switch /Refurbished, Cleaned & Installed
- OEM Civic 92-95 NH-1 floor mats (BNIB) /Protected with Nanolex Premium Textile and Leather Sealant & Installed
- OEM Drivers side power door lock upgrade /Installed
- OEM 93-95 Coupe third brake light /Refurbished & Installed
- OEM Electric Sunroof (body colored version) /Fully Disassembled, Cleaned & Serviced, I will buy the glass conversion to it someday
- OEM JDM Low Fuel light retrofit /Installed
- OEM Civic 92-00 Hood Insulator / Bought (BNIB)
- OEM ITR Spec-98 ABS retrofit /Main & Secondary harness + ABS computer + ABS hydraulic unit: Customized to EG body & Installed
- OEM JDM Door open indicator retrofit /Installed
- OEM Cruise Control retrofit /Installed
- OEM Auto Climate Control retrofit /Installed
- OEM Stanley Front foglights with clear lenses /Installed (Brand new set)
- OEM Gathers door panel tweeters / Installed
- OEM Black highrise armrest /Installed (BNIB)
- OEM EK9 Red Recaros /Bought
- OEM Honda Access Auto Headlight/Dusk sensor /ordered
- Reserved for more...

There is some rust, but there isnt any previous owners fixes, so the body is good base to start

Some pics:

My fiancee was driving the car home:

My feelings about that were pretty much like this:

Original switches had too many presses for my liking so...:

And the switches changed. OEM Fog switch has some yellowish sunburn tint on it, so i need to hunt a better one. The center switch blank will be filled with OEM TCS-switch, that i will be using to control the aftermarket ECU:s Traction Control System that i dream to own someday along with the new engine

Then i checked out the malfunctioning window:

Carefull look at the inside:

And the mechanism looked like this:

I disassembled the whole thing and carefully cleaned every part. Then i put some lithium multi purpose grease to the mechanism.

This was the problem:

I straightened up the scissors, took the OEM-balljointed replacement roll from my EG8:s old manual windows and welded that to this mechanism. It camed out perfect

Then i dropped of the shitty bitum sound deadening mats and aftermarket central locking motor.

Picture taken from the 4D mirror fitment to 2D doors. Horrible fitment. I ditched the Sedan mirrors and ordered OEM Power Folding mirrors.

I realized that there was something missing in those window mechanism:

The "helper spring" was missing. It helps the motor when lifting the window up. My EG4 and EG8 had those springs, but this EJ2 hadn´t. Strange.

I took the springs out from my EG8:s old manual window mechanisms:

And what a result! Windows work PERFECT. They are so quiet and fast.

Couple additional pics from those Sedan mirrors on 2D:

I cleaned inside of the doors, lots of debris in there:

Cleaned the interior:

(Little sad about those aftermarket tweeter holes)

EK front seats, they will be gone in no time... :D

Clearly imported from Germany:

Somebody has rolled the fenders </3:

Then i started to remove the interior:

Right rear inner fender:

Left is intact.

Removed the sunroof:

I disassembled the sunroof with help from the Service Manual. There was a problem with it and it got stuck all the time.

Well, there was a lots and lots of dirt and dry grease. "Moonroof Inner Cables" where destroyed from halfway because sunroof was forced to open.

I sat down and watched couple episodes of MacGyver and came up with a pretty nice fix.

So, the sunroof model is "Outer Slide Type". Same sunroof is used in EG Hatchbacks. The destroyed parts are marked with red arrows:

Next post tells how to fix it properly.

So, those wires go from the sunroof motor to the sunroof sliders. Because there is some distance, the other half from the cables is area where the motor gear never touches. I thought why not to swap the cable around?

Here is both ends of the wire:

First I removed the other end in a workbench:

Next i sanded and cleaned the wire end. Then i used the welding primer, heated it and cleaned it. It came out shiny, so its good to go:

Next i thought that how do i reliable extend the cable. I found two blue (14-16 AWG) Duraseal heated wire extenders:

...Which i removed the outer cover and tapped the inner part to the wire end. Tight fitment:

Next i sawed of the other ends part, that goes to the slider:

Which now will be the new motors side end:

Next i removed the plastic slider end part, so it doesnt melt when i heat up the wire:

Then the same thing as before; Sanding, cleaning, primer, heat, cleaning:

Then i finished the wire end and tapped it to the duraseal. There is i hole in center of the duraseal. I heated up the duraseal and melted a wire lead inside of it. Right amount of wire lead is when it starts to leak in both ends of the duraseal and the air bubbles stop coming from the center hole.

Then i let it to cool down and tested it by pulling it very hard in the workbench. It works:

Same thing to the other wire and thats it

Random pics:

Cleaned and fixed side:

One time clean with brake clean. Still very dirty. There was a ice cream stick in the mechanism:

Here is a quick video after fixing the roof. It isnt adjusted in the picture, and the spoiler setup is off from the OEM-line. Closed-spoiler-open-closed:

Thanks for watching!

I started to do some proper sound deadening with butyl rubber and aluminum foil based mats from StP. I tried to add as little weight as possible to the roof without compromising the sound deadening effect.

This car will have everything, so i needed to do some memo about what OEM-colored wires i need to add (this is just a quick list, there is much more)

Options:

- Automatic climate control, outside temp sensor: Two wires: Pink, Brown
- Cruise Control, actuator: Four wires: Colors: Brown, Black, Brown/Black, Brown/White
- Parking Pole: Four wires: Colors: Yellow/Red, Yellow/White, Red, Black
- Front fog lights: Two wires: Colors: Blue/Red, Black
- Headlight washers: Two wires: Colors: Red/Yellow, White/Black
- Electrical adjustable headlights: Factory installed
- Alarm sensors to hood: * some wire...
- USDM Side lights: Three wires per side.
- Alarm siren: *some wire...
- ABS/TCS sensors: ABS-main harness
- Speakers: Four wires per side (front)
- OEM central locking actuator to drivers door: Two wires added: Colors: White/Red, Yellow/Red
- JDM Low Fuel indication: One Wire; Green/Red
- JDM Door Open indication

etc etc etc, much more to come

Then EG9 JDM Power Folding mirrors arrived:

I took a gamble and wished that they would fit to EG4 power mirror bases. I was wrong:

EG9 PFM base:

EG4 HB PM base:

EG8 PM base:

As you can see, all my existing mirror bases were incompatible with these PFM:s

I disassembled the mirrors, cleaned and greased the "gearboxes":

Pre-wired for heat:

Gears and belts:

Cleaned:

There was some **** wiring work from previous owners:

Then i bought 9 months old (i mean its bought 9 months ago brand new from Honda) Optional Audio Console:

I will use all the parts except the grey cover. I will need to hunt black cover to this console so it match to the interior.

I started to do the wiring for the Power Folding. I will also do the wiring for heat, cause i can never know when a good PFHM switch will come for sale

This is how to do it properly. All the added wires will be OEM-colored. Left mirror Power Folding = Green Yellow, Blue/Red

Heat: Black, Blue/Red

Five pin OEM power central locking= Yellow/Red, White/Red:

Waiting for the door lock to arrive:

Packed up, waiting for install:

Central locking was behaving strangely and i found the cause for it. Someone has used wrong grease inside the connector:

I also bought brand new sunroof switch, it came inside Honda OEM-package.

USDM and UKDM/EDM switch differences(see the color and surface differences):

More interior dissassembly:

EK rails :x :

FAS pollen filter

Same filter from -97 / 40 000km

Next thing to remove was the floor mat:

No suprises here:

As you can see, OEM sound deadening was too easy to remove:

Next thing. Cleaning the carpet:

After vacuum cleaner:

After pressure washer and some detergent:

I also prewired JDM Low Fuel Indicator. Wire color: Green/Red:

Repairing door sills:

Cleaning all the stains thats left from OEM- sound deadening mats, and installing StP Silver. (Cleaning is not fully done in this pic).

Then i bought brand new EG/EJ Parking Pole from Malaysia. Never used in OEM Honda package:

I bought pair of EG HB OEM manual side mirrors to complete my Power Folding mirror installation:

Also ABS-main harness came from Germany:

I also tried the car without OEM-spoiler, and i think it looks much nicer without it

Removing even the tiniest surface rust spots. I´m not going to leave _any_ rust under the sound deadening mat:

brand new (came inside a Honda Access box) 2DIN Console:

BTW, Thanks Honda for using same parts in Jazz/Insight/S2000... <3

I found out that Insight front left power door lock motor/switch fits right into EG/EJ:s locks. So now you can have OEM power door lock also in drivers door. Great for alarm/remote control central locking systems

No more aftermarket actuators (i dont know who´s pic this is, sorry for using it!):

That causes this to happen:

This is the drivers side stock door lock with switch:

And here is the lock with Insight door lock motor/switch combo:

Comparison:

Completely plug and play

I needed to use spare ABS-sensor connector. I didnt have any grey 2-way Honda connectors

Done! Ready for Avital 5303

Cluster harness, smaller connector: JDM Low Fuel Indicator, PIN7, Green/Red...:

...goes through the dashboard main harness with a little help of WD-40 pipe :D...

... to the dashboards main connector (blue) pin 2. (In EDM-cars pin1 is already in use, so it is needed to use next free pin which is pin2.)

Then i needed to think what is the correct route to ABS-main harness. The only spot that seemed right was this:

Harness clips was broken, but fortunately i had some spares..

I cleaned the installation location, and protected it from the rust using Tectylin ML.

Testing the correct route:

I didnt wrapped the harness yet, cause i still need to remove there 4DR rear door lock/window wires:

Yesterday i removed the unused wires and wrapped the ABS/TCS main harness:

Why the power steering cooler line has been looped like this?:

Parking Pole and Front Fog light installation:

Fogs installed. Carbon Fiber covers will be swapped from my EG8 in some day:

It was a pleasure to install the OEM-harnesses. In up there is OEM Front Foglight harness and below there is a OEM Parking Pole harness:

Did you see my point? Look at the green tapes:

"...by first installing the two plastic wire ties with clip on the harness in the areas where the green tape is wrapped..."

It was sooo easy to install it clean, cause Honda had marked the correct clips installation points to the harnesses

Then some fabrication:

Thanks Mr. deschlong!

OEM Stainless Steel Door Sills arrived today. I was little scared cause the package was little bent:

But fortunately they were fine

They are little dirty and not installed in these pics. I need to clean the old 2 sided tape and apply new 3M Tape to them.

The other thing that i did today was removal of some small surface rust spots and painted the cleaned surface with zinc/epox:

Then i also ordered new OEM Floor Mats. P/N: 08P15-SR0-110 Color NH1 / Type D

IMO They look so much better than those striped ones:

I just want to give a BIG THANKS to one particular ebay seller: lec_motorsports. Without his help I could not have bought those mats. Easily the best customer service that I´ve ever experienced!

Thanks!

Mats arrived and they look perfect! big thanks to lec_motorsports!

They are much darker in real life. But the camera didnt really catch it. They have a really nice effect

It was a rainy day in couple of weeks ago, so I thought to clean up the dashboard:

When the sunshine came back, I removed the surface rust from the floor:

I noticed something strange when removing the side sills:

What is this?

And why the wiring works was made like this?:

Previous owner did some undersealing...

...But in this case it wasnt doing any good, cause the underseal was applied straight over the debris and other **** -> accelerates rusting :x

Needs some fresh metal...

I also started to do some wire tuck, but nothing serious in here:

Then i bought Asus Nexus 7 (2013 model) to be my new I.C.E front end

Just a raw test fitting:

Then i did some shopping:

Civic 92-00 OEM Hood Insulator:

JDM Optional Bronze Door 1 DIN pocket:

OEM cable channel to the passengers side. Eases up some wire routing

Its very hard to get a good picture from those floor mats, strange light gray to dark grey effect

Part number:

ABS-wire harness retrofit:

Cluster ABS-light wire:

Then i also used some fosfor acid to remove even the tiniest rust spots from the metal:

The my JDM bronze lid 1 DIN pocket came and i gave it a good clean, removed the scratches and polished it:

Then i bought a rare EJ1/2 Coupe third brake light from Malaysia:

And also another EG/EJ BNIB parking pole and also a Power Folding Mirror switch, which is in very nice condition (please excuse the dirt):

Is this the OEM-Power Folding relay location? Can someone confirm? This is the only place where i can install this cause the other possible place will be used for Cruise Control computer and Headlight Washer System relay:

Power Folding mirrors will also be controlled by the alarm door lock pulses.

Then we are coming to this day:

Some chemicals:

Protecting the new floor mats from the dirt and moisture:

Water test after application and drying:

Bilt Hamber Deox-C, Deox-Gel and Hydrate 80 usage:

After drying:

And after seam sealer:

Edit: Current progress:

- OEM EG/EJ Parking Pole (BNIB) /Bought & Installed
- OEM Optional 2DIN Audio Console (BNIB) /Bought
- OEM JDM Optional 1 DIN Bronze door pocket /Bought & Installed
- OEM Civic 92-95 JDM Optional Stainless Steel Door Sills /Bought & Installed
- OEM Power Folding Heated Side mirrors /Bought, Modded to LHD & Installed
- OEM Power Folding Mirror Switch /Bought, Refurbished, Cleaned & Installed
- OEM Civic 92-95 NH-1 floor mats (BNIB) / Bought, Protected with Nanolex Premium Textile and Leather Sealant & Installed
- OEM Drivers side power door lock upgrade /Bought & Installed
- OEM 93-95 Coupe third brake light /Bought, Refurbished
- OEM JDM Low Fuel light retrofit /Wiring Ready, Fuel Sender missing

Wow! INCREDIBLE attention to detail and I love how you take pictures of all of your progress.

I can tell you are a very intelligent and meticulous dude. I usually don't like coupe builds but I am really into this. I will keep following.

Best thread on here in a while, IMHO. Keep it up!

Thanks for awesome comments! I just try to do my best with my limited time, money tools and skills Im using all the things that I´ve learned in the past years with my two other EG builds to do this EJ2 right way from the start

So, its still unclear if this will be a B18C or K-Series build. Both will require ABS-system to pass inspection and K-Series swap also requires a very difficult and problematic exceptional licence

As i said earlier, i bought EG Sedan ABS-main and secondary harness from Germany, and removed the unnecessary wires from it. I was curious about the ITR Spec 98 ABS system and EG ABS system differences. I was sure that ITR ABS system is superior when comparing to EG:s, so I studied both systems schematics to learn the differences, and find out how much work there is involved to modify the EG harness to work with ITR:s ABS-parts.

After some intense studying, I made the decision to make a ITR ABS-system retrofit. Here is my findings:

This is the first version about the differences (in Finnish):

Here is a snapshot from my Excel file that i did to ease up things:

As you can see, there is just couple of modifications to do to EG:s main harness.

For the other things, here is some random pics from interior. All thing aren´t clean yet, (sorry for that) but in my opinion the interior will look awesome when its fully ready and cleaned!

Seat belt thingys looked bad so I fixed them a little:

Here is just that lower flap cleaned up, still upper one to make.

Seat Belt Indicator harness added (could someone please give me any info about how this system works? Is it ICU dependent or can it work without ICU? Is the Seat Belt indicator light part of the ICU:s bulb check circuit?:

Also the PFMS arrived, but it looked bad. There was a 2cm scratch in the "Mirror" button, button "feel" was bad and there was a annoying sound coming from the PFM button.

This is a pic from the starting condition:

Dissassembly:

Changing the rear cover, upper one is old (yellowed ) and the lower one is new:

Changing the "MIRROR" button, upper one is old, and the lower one is new (Keep in mind that the replacement parts must be from -94 (or was it -93?) or newer switch, cause older switches have different looking surface and painting.):

I had also couple spare switches, so I dissassembled them all and tested the rubber thingys. I gathered 4 of those that had the best "feel" and used them in this PFMS. (Yes there was a differences in the "feedback".)

Switch housing dissassembled and fully cleaned:

There was a Malaysian dust in the switches surface which made the unpleasant sound:

And here is fully refurbished and cleaned switch installed to my dash (also check out the brand new sunroof switch)

Then i added the folding wire to the Mirror switch harness (BLU/YEL):

I also received the Coupe third brake light. I dissassembled it and noticed that the foam was brittled so the light "leaked" a little:

This is the last pic i took from it before the phone battery died:

To be continued in some day, thanks for reading and sorry for picture flooding!
