Re: Panchoek's build thread
Today was a big autocross weekend called the Iowa Challenge. There are 3 SCCA autocross regions in Iowa and they all compete against each other over 2 days with 2 different courses for fastest times in PAX. since I'm in SM/SMF class its pretty hard to get top pax times but it was a blast to compete against a lot of fast cars.. here are some of the cars that were in my class and videos from both days
STI on old BFG R1 slicks
Evo8 about 350HP on Dunlop direzza z2's
STI about 320HP on Dunlop direzza z2's
Evo8 about 350HP on Hoosier A6 slicks
and now me about 130HP on Hooser A7's on from and C71 hankooks on rear.. lol!!!
Results:
Finished 2nd overall behind the sedan STI on rpf1
Day 1 2nd place by .073 seconds!!
Day 2 2nd place by .316 seconds!!

Re: Panchoek's build thread
found a awesome deal on a Seibon carbon fiber hood. previous owner did not like the style of it but I think it looks fine on my car, especially with the splitter and raised spoiler. the hood is definitely lighter than the OE hood and it will be great to lower the underhood temps. had to travel about 2 1/2 hours, but I only paid $180 so I think I got a deal.
went to the mini track today, wasn't running the times I usually. It just felt that I wasn't driving the same lines I usually do..
anyways heres a video of my best run
So much OPR(other people's rubber) that was all the way around the tire

Looks like you have a lot of fun and are willing to accept your skill level.
Don't be too concerned about the faster cars if you are this passionate about the sport. Stay where you are happy and enjoy it the most.
If you gotta go fast though, pay up!

yea I know that there's a limit to what my car can do, and there's good and bad days, it all depends on the course. I know the car still has a lot more in it but im happy where its at right now with this setup. its all about knowing what works for you car

Re: Panchoek's build thread
pretty exciting this past weekend, finally got a chance to go to a bigger track.. they were holding Fundays on sundays which cuts part of the big track for beginners to experience what its like to drive on a track. This is 2x bigger than I've ever been to plus having other cars at the same time.
but first Saturday with a Cars and Coffee
and now yesterday at the track

Great weather for autocross today!!
got 2nd place in Raw time.. lost by .070 seconds.. I think that if I didn't need to shift to 3rd gear in the finish I would have gotten it..
about a month left until I the season ends and prepping for next year starts.. big plans.. stay tuned!

Re: Panchoek's build thread
we'll start with previous event action shots
last week at the old go-kart track but this time only 1 lap.. I was competing against this subie and and 2016 GTR on 315 wide R888.. finished ahead of the subie by less than a tenth of a second, but the GTR got me by 1 second
and now today.. I was debating on putting slicks on but then I saw the competition and couldn't help myself.. I think I finished 4 in raw behind some really fast cars
1st place, stupid fast mr2
2nd place, the Lotus exige
3rd place.. square tube chassis with a cobalt engine mated to a corvette drivetrain
and then me, civic b20b w/ ITR tranny and also my daily driver!!
post event gas station pic
and for a video
an outside view of my 2nd run.. it starts at 6:10 into the video

Re: Panchoek's build thread
double header this weekend. first off Saturday
first off not a very good pic but this was a the powertrain to a custom built chassis.. supercharged b16.. it looks like they just chopped off the front end at the rails and attached it to the rear of this thing because it had all front suspension components on the rear. lower control arm, upper control arm, coilovers and brakes
we also had a corvette go off course and did some damage, looked a lot worse than what the damage shows
and today
where the splitter rod mounts to the blade got torn out the previous day due to a nasty bump on the course so I had to tape it up instead of letting it dangle there
action shot

Re: Panchoek's build thread
JiThanks guys!! That gives me a little more motivation for next year.. planning for a shock rebuild to match higher spring rates and ex brake upgrade.. if Im able to save enough money, crower 403 cams.. but I think that's going to wait for later 2016

Re: Panchoek's build thread
thanks you!
last autocross of the year.. short course but still a great way to end the autox season
DSC9719 by Binary Racing, on Flickr
DSC9651 by Binary Racing, on Flickr
also decided to throw on my old Buddy Club P1's I bought from another member on here a while back.. I love this look but its such a pain to keep clean since they're white and with all the brake dust

Re: Panchoek's build thread
so I keep debating on what brake set up I want for next year. I have ex knuckles that I'm cleaning up and painting. Can't decide if I want ex or type r calipers.. So in autox you don't need too much braking so I feel that if I put type r calipers its going to be too much and lock up everywhere. That's not good especially since I run R-comps and could flat spot them in no time. I'm currently running brembo blanks and hawk hps, so these are my options..
option 1
with stock DX knuckles w/ new setup
Stoptech rotors and Carbotech AX6 pads
option 2
ex knuckles that will need new bearings and ball joints
10.3" DBA T2 rotors and Carbotech AX6 pads
option 3
ex knuckles with new bearings and ball joints
11" Mini cooper rotors and Carbotech AX6 pads
issues I'm having:
1) tight budget and I don't have ex calipers so that means atleast $120 new w/o core exchange and ex knuckles need new bearings and ball joints, $200. that could buy the rotors and pads for the DX knuckles I have now
2) I can save some money by putting on the Type R calipers but I would still need new bearings and ball joints and as I mentioned above, probably too much brake and limited wheel option.
I would prefer to settle in the middle and get ex calipers and 10.3" rotors and have a good improvement. I feel that with the new stoptech rotors and AX6 pads, the braking should improve a lot and with the tight budget, I feel this is the better option.
Need some people opinions!! so chime in if you want
anyways heres some before and after finishing one knuckle
also my new springs came in, one set is new. they're 700F/550R
The plan is to send out my shocks to get revalved this winter

Re: Panchoek's build thread
If you are just autoxing, stick with the OEM calipers. Run a better pad like Hawk HP+ and a brembo blank and call it a day. I've ran HP+ for 15yrs for autox and they are fine, plently of bite and stopping power. Track is another story
