I messed up and cut the lip afterwards. It should be measured out. You need clearance between the block, girdle, etc and the end of the flange. You need clearance between the flange and the rear main seal. You need it to extend no further than the crankshaft so that the flywheel may bolt on, it only really needs to extend a little past the gouge in the crank.
Clearances do not have to be perfect, i doubt you'll even find specs. It's pretty much just that the stuff cannot touch the other stuff.

Ok thanks. I'll measure it with some calipers and get it in. The instructions state it can be cut if needed. What did you use to cut it? It looks thin enough to almost just snap it off lol.

Tin snips. I wanted to use a pipe cutter since i had accidentally already installed it but i couldn't find one big enough that i'd be able to return right afterwards. It has got jagged edges since I cut it on the crank, but i filed it down a little and was careful putting the seal on.

I seriously have almost no time. It's on the back burner for now.

looking forward to updates. bet you were pleased to find a 'JAIFE' differential in the transmission after all the rest of the questionable finds.

Started looking for a house.
Got another raise.
Bought a house
Moved
Parked civic in garage
looked at engine for about 3 months
Everytime I start delving into this mess it just gets worse and worse.
The only real update is that my gut says to pull the head, tear down the block, and go full on turbo build, in for a penny, in for a pound.
My brain says I'm an idiot and really should just cut my losses, part out the good stuff, scrap the bad, sell the Civic, and pick up a bike to go play in the dirt with, and keep saving for a GTR.
Decisions...decisions.

Or... or
Sell all that broken **** and buy an OEM long block from a reputable source, put it in, drive it, enjoi it and if you really wanted to, sell it complete for more $$$ and put that towards GTR (unless R35 goodlucc California)
