Default 97 Civic LX 4DR Re-Build Thread

So I just picked up a 97 Civic LX with a (what seems to be) blown motor for 500.00. The car has 84k miles on it and is an auto. My plans are to install another good condition d-series motor and either drive it or sell it.

I'm keeping ac, keeping power steering, keeping everything 100% stock besides maybe a front lip and some hx wheels. I've always loved how nice a stock EK drives. (my mom has one with 240k miles on it...will not get a new one)

Most likely I'll keep the car since its in excellent condition besides needing paint.

Here are a few pics...

More to follow once I start later today.

motor and ecu from LHT performance.

as you can see...the florida sun destroys honda paint.

yeah, i think i did ok.

i should have this thing up and running for less than 900.00.

i'm going to replace all of the belts/fluids etc...plus i have 240.00 into the motor/ecu.

Are you planning on converting it auto to manual?

started by cleaning the car out...

only got about halfway through before filling my garbage can. the interior needs a thorough cleaning once i get the engine swapped...its disgusting inside.

i took the axles out, uninstalled the header, disconnected a few other misc odds/ends...spent a lot of time cleaning up the parts i took off...to get rid of the surface rust. thankfully this car only spent a few years up north in michigan...it spent most of its time abandoned at an apt complex waiting for a new motor.

and one final pic...it'll look way better once its cleaned up...overall the body has only minor dings/dents that are hardly noticeable.

Great start of a project. Was this car a flood victim? That's a ton of corrosion in the engine bay.

I don't think the car was a flood victim. (the interior is in good shape...wiring harness is not corroded...etc)

It did however...spend a few years in Michigan.

Thankfully there is minimal rust on the underside of the car. I will take more pics tomorrow.

Here is the engine bay with new longblock...I did my best to clean it up.

BTW, last two pics are with new motor installed.

It runs, drives, just needs ac charged.

Then I think I'm going to register/drive it.
