Default '91 CRX Si Project d15b2 block/y7 head

I started this thread on ef-honda so the first three post are all in one.

I am trying to get a 91 crx si by this weekend so no pics of the whip this motor setup will be going in yet.

Today I removed the stock head from the d15b2 block I am going to be running with the y7 head. The b2 head looks clean. The piston walls I don't know about. You can see the discoloration near the tops of the piston walls. It is the same on all 4.

It feels smoove though. What ya think?

I had to take the upper water neck off the b2 head and install it on the y7 head as they have different angles and helps the stock upper rad hose fit proper.

Took some pics of the head surface, pretty clean. And the intake side ported.

Mugen Valve Cover(fake) I like the way it looks but might just repaint the Red Valve cover that came with the y7 head.

Tried to clean off the b2 block, used a drill gun with the attachments and Engine/Brake cleaner.

And pretty clean but not perfect.

Skraping off the old stock composite headgasket(pain in the ***)

The Heart of the Project: D-Series Si cable trans/d15b2 w/y8 head(delta 272 cam,AEM cam gear, and intake side ported)

Also, could I sand the b2 block/head surface with a high grit sandpaper? That composite crap is hard to get off.

More to come. I am waiting on the crank pulley keyway and crank pulley bolt/washer for the d15b2 to come in the mail from Majestic Honda. I received an '88 b2 crank pulley a couple days ago. Motor is just about ready to come together.

I will be using a y8 head gasket and stock b2 head studs w/one y7 head stud...

No real updates just pics!

Y7 Head is still clean. It was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago

Better pic of the B2 block after some cleaning(still could use some)

And the Brains for the B2 block-D16Y8 Honda MLS Headgasket and Y7 head w/intake side ported and Delta 272 Cam

I finally traded my ef hatch shell for a 91 crx si shell. I just need to get a headbolt so I can put my y7 head on the b2 block and bolt on the si trans, throw it in and drive, hopefully.

The crx shell is from Texas. It is pretty clean with no rust except for a couple small bubles on the sunroof. I want to get it repainted the stock black but keep it all stock looking except for wheels and lowered a lil.

A previous owner spray painted from the doors back flat-black. Pretty gay but will be fixed eventually. For now I just want to get it running.

I will be removing the fog lights

It already has amber front turn signals. I like it so I am going to get the amber upper corner lights as well.

I still need to clean out the interior but it looks like it will clean up nice.

I installed the Honda Radio block-off.

Engine bay needs paint also.

OEM Rear Disc!

NISIN

I just installed these omni-power full coil-overs onto the crx. And the purple springed combo that was on the crx to my DD 91 sedan.

I also just received from Honda, a Crank Pulley Bolt/Washer and Key.

I will be running a '88 d15b2 stock block w/y7 head(intake side ported, delta 272 cam, AEM cam gear, Rebuilt 30,000 miles ago). On a cable Si trans.

Yeah, that and a paint job. I already like this shell the best out of the last 2 project shells I have had. Keeping everything stock except motor and shocks/springs.
Unsure on wheels yet. I know someone with some 91 crx si wheels I might be able to get or some "bottlecaps" which I would paint dark bronze.

Today I finished off cleaning the block mating surface. Then put on the y7 head. It is not torqued down yet though, gotta borrow my buddies torque wrench.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get that torque wrench and figure out my wire harness. I bought an HF wire harness since the crx didn't come with one. I just got to switch some pins around and transfer a wire over.

More to come...

whoops, pics too small, will fix.

It was cheap and had it laying around. I had a d16a6 block I was going to rebuild but funds are low.

how much you plan on spending for a paint job? I got a buddy who can shoot it for you. I think he typically charges about 150 for everything. don't quote me on that.

his work aint professional, but they paint jobs come out real good. i'm gonna have him paint mine soon when I get my body work done. i'll let you take a look at it when its finished.

It needs paint but no funds for that right now. I think the crx needs to be primered also. Whoever spray painted my rex sanded it down pretty thin in some spots. I want it painted back to the stock black.

I will have to check yours out after paint, i could throw the paint supplies on a credit card and pay cash for the labor, idk. My engine bay needs paint bad also though...

I just want to get it running so paint may wait til next year...

Got a lil more work done.

Installed z6 intake mani and wire harness on block. I need to loom up some of the wires and replace the water temp connectors.
Also there is a connector that I don't know where it would go. You can see it in the middle of the picture. It is a male connector and looks just like the connector that connects to the fuel purge solenoid on the upper firewall. Any ideas what it goes to?

Installed a center console that was in better shape than the one that came with the crx.

Also the little plastic tabs that allow you to screw the glove box to the dash frame were broken off.

I super glued the tabs back on the glove box in an attempt to salvage it.....but the glove box didn't line up so it wouldn't latch. Oh well, gotta buy another one.

Took off the front bumper to prep for engine install.

The crx came with an aftermarket traction bar but I replaced it with a stock one for I could utilize the d series front motor mount. It has poly bushings in it to help tame wheel hop.

Also installed the under-hood fuse box since dude kept the original one.

More to come.....

Added the reverse light and o2 sensors plugs to the wire harness since they were missing.

I also noticed that the distributor plugs on the engine harness were missing. They were cut inside some of the wire loom.

So I searched around and luckily found a pair of dizzy plugs. Wired them up and now the harness is just about finished.

I also traded for an alternator and lower timing cover. I installed the alternator. Now I have to finish looming the rest of the exposed wiring and install timing belt/cover.

Once thats done time to install ACT stage 1 clutch/slighty lightened stock flywheel and bolt the trans up. Then throw it in the REX and ride. Although things never go as planned so we will see.

Motor chilling in front of the crx waiting for its new home.

More to come!

Once its on there i'll roll out to dekalb to show you. it should be ok. I really wanna paint it CW, but I don't think thats gonna happen.

CW paint would be sweet!

Tonight I finished up the looming the wiring and installed the intake mani to block brace. Ran outta tape so I used a couple zip ties to clamp down the loom til I get some more.

Also installed a new tenstioner, timing belt, water pump, lower timing cover, and crank pulley.

I was trying to think of a way to secure the flywheel while tightening down the crank pulley bolt and case across this bracket in my box of misc bolts.

Fits perfect using a starter bolt hole and works awesome!

I had a chikara/hedman header lying around and decided to bolt up the upper half to keep crap outta the exhaust side of the head. When I did I noticed the lower part is touching the block. Gonna have to take some material out of the header to make it work. I was also looking for 3 bolts that would fit to secure the 2 peice header together but couldn't find any that would fit.

So I will probally just buy a cheap ebay header.

Motor all ready to be connected to trans once I install the clutch and flywheel. I also have a new release bearing to install on the trans as well.

Hopefully Saturday morning I will get the motor/trans together. I need to buy some 3M window weld to fill in my stock motor mounts as well. Cheers!

Got a lil more work done today.

Removed old flywheel and slapped on a lighter one.

Installed ACT stage 1 clutch.

Connected Trans and starter to motor.

Next up, install shift linkage to CRX and drop motor/trans in.

Almost.........ready!

Made some ghetto-tastic engine stiffeners with old thick rubber tubing. This build is definately on a budget, lol !

I also did the front mount but I am having trouble getting it to line up with the main thru-bolt.

Dropped the motor in the engine bay. Started to hook up electrical connectors and tubing but the local pizza place I deliver for needing me to come in.

Tomorrow I am trading some DA wheels for some 90-91 CRX Si wheels and will have some Falken Ziex 912's mounted also. I want to keep it as stock looking as possible(Need that paint job).

Saturday morning some more progress or used header should come....

Yesterday I picked up my CRX Si wheels and had some Falken Ziex 912's mounted.

Today I picked up a DC Sports 4-2-1 one-peice header for $30(some rust but will be sanded down and sprayed with VHT ceramic header paint). o2 sensor is rounded off and stuck in it so I have to figure out how to get that out.

I did a little bit of work today.

-Mounted up my Odyssey 680 battery
-Temporarily installed my intake
-Hooked up shift linkage
-Hooked up more wiring
-Installed fuel filter and fuel lines
-Hooked up clutch cable

Almost ready for the first start...

LOL, that is the only thing I would do that wouldn't look stock. The more I think about it though I probally wouldn't want a cage since I want to keep it all original except motor and shocks/springs.

The crank pulley is an '88 d series crank pulley since the '88 d series block have a smaller crank snout so that is the only crank pulley that works with them. Timing belt is the d15b2 timing belt.
