so once upon a time i had a dream..... combine the light weight hatchback with a full size subaru .... well my dreams are coming to life . first start with a 1989 std hatchback, find a wrecked awd wagon drop in a d16z6, turbocharge it , add 3 inch exhaust and **** off CHP this cars main goal is to push the limits of "street legal" and be able to fully drive it everyday to work and run off pump gas. now remember "illegal" is "legal" as long as you dont get caught , any "illegal" parts being used will be hidden and will almost be completely impossible to find. theres always ways to bend the law trust me i drove around with buddy club spec 2 with a barr'd jdm h22a for over a year and had every chp around believing yellow headlights and buddy club were 100% legal haha anways ill let the picks do the talking and explain as i go .... i have already started so some pics are missing from the start but those are boring anyways :p so let the pics begin !!!!

the awd transmissions are exceptionally weak.. hence way in all videos of turbo awd sohcs they dont launch hard in them so some serious upgrades will needed to be done to the front and rear differentials plus other tranny parts.

just a heads up.

thanks for the input , strengthening them actually isnt hard at all its been done before , but this build wont be so agressive im shooting for 200whp with a modified greddy kit . i shouldnt have any issues if i do so be it as long as nothing is solid and parts give they will last longer

stripped the engine bay

got my intercooler tubing thanks to go-autoworks ! mishaps tubing no fit , solved with a local welder ....



mocked up the trans mount , it has to be raised about 1"


started to tuck wires while the engine bay was stripped

found my foglight switch for my top secret jdm package coming in the mail :O

sanded , primered and chose a color

loved it and went for it




wasnt shiny enough so it got drowned in clear ...

motor and tranny meet , that was a great day ... FYI awd oil pans ARE different they are notched for the driveshaft output shaft , mine was bashed in so i had to pursued my z6 pan with a hammer :p

my friend loved my valve cover and gave me one to spice up a little with a simialr style

well the piaa fogs if you dont already know , came off a jdm ef5 wagonvan "beagle" as if the car wasnt already rare in other countrys i got my hands on the front pushbar and fogs . this is THE actual car they came off of ! i only got them to go along with my suby civic hybrid theme , also looking into rally armour mud flaps haha

im confused on why you are calling it a Suby-Hatch-hybrid theme, cause really
from my understanding your taking all the parts off a Rt4wd honda civic wagon.

It should properly be called Rt4wd Hatch... and RealTime 4wd does not turn
on until the Front Wheels Spin.. but you can modify it to keep 4wd on all the time...

as for the strength of the Rt4wd system, User ~sp33~ should be chiming in
any second with moar info....

also good luck with the build; your off to a solid start... i like the purp...

i only call it a suby civic hybrid because of the fact that at one point or another i have more thwn just one front wheel going haha im probly going to cramb a quaife lsd into the rear diff at somepoint as well. as far as the rt4wd goes it can be eadsily be turned into all time but then again stressing parts. ive already read preety much every thread in the world about these awd trannies and strengthening them and the diffs . the one thing i might do for sure is get rid of the locking mechinsism to go from fwd to awd , but then smoggin it might be an issue remeber im in cali ..... keep the comments and info coming

wagonvans are pure ugly to me haha i like the rtsi eg 4 doors and coupes with the DOHC zc's. im plotting on a 3 inch aluminum race exhuast as wel figure itll wight around 2 pounds :p
