SYnthetic ????
First of all, I did a research but I dont feel I got the answer.
I want to know if its true that SYNTHETIC motor oil is not good for Honda Motor ?
Because of synthetic oil is THIN and its not good for honda motor BEARING.
Recommended by a mechanic , said to use regular motor oil like Castrol GTX etc.
I have been using Mobil 1 fully SYnthetic on my b20 motor before vtec conversion.
now if i go back to a regular motor oil from synthetic, will it be bad ? since the motor is probably used w/ synthetic more than a year and a half. I dont want to end up having
SPINNING bearing due to using synthetic motor oil, too thin for honda BEARING ??

Re: SYnthetic ???? (b20VTEC MONSTER)
Synthetic oil is not bad at all for your motor, and you can switch back to conventional. Mobil1 10w30 is ok, GERMAN castrol 0w30 is a good syn, redline 5/10w30 is excellent, amsoil is another good choice. You will not spin a bearing due to a syn oil, its an old wifes tale passed on by hillbilly mechanics

Synthetic oil is the best thing for hondas go with the 10 30 and you will be fine. Now going from synthetic back to regular is not a bad thing. people say that you will start to leak oil, i have done it on my older car and never got a oil leak. The only way your going to spin a bearing is if you redline that block to 8000. my friend have the same thing and thats what happend, he spun a bearing. those block need to be built and tuned properly so be careful

is 10w30 the recommended oil weight for a b20 engine? how come you recommended so many different types of oils in different weights? is the mobil1 5w30 too thin compared to a 5w30 redline oil or 0w30 german castrol? please let me know. i am interested to hear about this.

Yes the mobil 1 oils are a little on the thin side for a 30w where as german castrol is on the thick side of the 30w scale. It is a good idea to add 4 oz. of GM eos to every oil change. Dan

You can switch to synthetic any time and switch back at any time. You can even also mix synthetic with regular. All of this info is from a mobil representative. Synthetic WILL cause a poorly maintained engine because the varnish and buildup blocking the gaskets and seals will be cleaned away with all the detergents in synthetic.
Mobil 1 FTW.

Mobil! 5w30 is an energy conserving oil, group4 and is considered a "thick" 5w20. Redline oils are a group5 syn, and are on the thick side of their rating. German castrol 0w30 is a group4 also, but all other castrol syntecs are a group3 hydrocracked conventional oil. The 0w30 castrol is much thicker almost like a 40w. Im not a fan of mobil1, its just on the thin side and tends to burn off. I do like their delvac1 5w40 synthetic diesel oil though

that's very good to know. thank you and thanks to dan ruddock as well for the info. i've been using mobil1 5w30 on my b18c1 engine because it was recommended by honda and it runs fine, but it does burn/lose alittle bit of oil after awhile. i think i'll go try out some mobil1 10w30 next time i change my oil.

I've heard before that M1 5W-30 is a thin 30 weight, but does the same saying apply to M1 10w-30 as well?
