Default Review of Crane 101-0012 non-VTEC cams in B20B

Just putting this out there for some information, and if people are wondering what these cams would do.
Here's the link for these cams...
http://www.cranecams.com/?show...shaft

Here's a comparison of the numbers(keep in mind this is a mild cam, which can be run fine with stock valve springs and retainers)
INTAKE CAM ADV. DURATION - 234 STOCK - 232 CRANE
INTAKE CAM LIFT - 10.00mm STOCK - 10.16mm CRANE
EXHAUST CAM ADV. DURATION - 236 STOCK - 250 CRANE
EXHAUST CAM LIFT - 9.65mm STOCK - 9.85mm CRANE

I think it's kind of odd that Crane actually decreased the duration on the intake cam by two degrees. Makes you wonder why, maybe the ramp angle is different? Maybe they found it to be more effective? We'll find out soon.
The duration on the exhaust cam was increased considerably, and the lift was barely touched. Just minor increases, and I think this is because they wanted to keep the ability to run stock valve springs.

The motor I currently have these cams in is a mildly modified B20B from a 1997 CR-V. It's been freshly rebuilt, three angle valve job, all new seals, and I had the head milled .026". Combined with a two layer headgasket, this gives me about 9.45:1 for compression. It's a very mild motor, and it's extremely reliable. Combined with the 99 Si transmission, it goes pretty good in my 95 CX hatch.

Anyway, with the stock cams, the pull from launch to redline(6800rpm) was linear. It was your typical non-VTEC motor. Not too shabby, but nothing spectacular either.
After I installed these cams, I felt an immediate difference. For better and for worse. My low end suffered. Not MAJOR, but I'd say at least 5hp/tq below 3500rpm. Luckily I'm 2.0 and not a 1.8, otherwise the torque would kinda suck.

From 3500-5000 or so, it feels pretty similar to the stock cams. Then from 5000rpm and on, it FEELS like at least 5-7hp more. It pulls to redline WAY faster than before. My only complaint was, the 6800rpm limit wasn't working for me. At redline, when I would shift, it would fall *just* outside of the powerband on these cams. So by using the Crome, we raised the redline to 7200rpm and now it's great. I stay in the powerband, and it's pretty nice.
The motor also took on a different tone with these cams. My buddy described it well by saying it sounds like a stock GSR in VTEC. i agree.

Anyway, I can't wait to get to the dyno in a week or two. All I need is some cam gears, since the cams are technically retarded about 2 degrees due to milling the head. I think it should be good for close to 140whp once we tune it all. Only other mods on the motor are a hot air intake, stock GSR exhaust manifold, test pipe and custom exhaust.

Sorry for the long-winded review.. but I am bored, and I am sure there are guys out there with LS integras who can benefit from this review.

Look for an update here in about two weeks. Thanks!
Here's the car it's in...

Sounds good. You should definetely get some adjustable cam gears. Advance it back and it should help the low/mid range out. And the tuning will be nice too.

compression is deff your freind, id expect 140ish hp from a stock b20z block...

anyway yeah when i installed my cams the car got alot louder, basically canceling out the 14" magnaflow resonator i JUST go on the car.

id still look into arp rod bolts though, ive been taking my stock b20z to 7500 but i also plan a rebuild real soon.
