Is oil consumption common with Honda???
I bought a 2006 Honda Accord new, Left the dealership and drove about 800 miles. Got home from the trip and thought I should check the oil, it was down a 1 1/2 quarts. I kept the car for 70K and it always used oil and I heard every story under the sun from the dealer, including if it was an SU2000 it would use a quart in 800 miles to which I replied if that was the case you would be talking to my lawyer. Anyway I went back to Toyota and have never had to add oil to my Camrys or Avalons.
My daughter just bought a 2010 Pilot $35,000 for this POS. At 4000 miles it has used over 2 quarts of oil, is this a common issue? Why is no one complaining about this? The dealer was useless when I was trying to resolve the issue with my Accord, I am considering options but expect the same run around from the dealer.
Is anyone else having these issues? Don't tell me all cars use oil......... that is not true. I put around 50K miles a year on Toyotas and do not have to add oil between changes. In fact I have ran Amsoil for years with long oil changes and still never had to add oil. I believe it has to do with the 5/20 oil, may move to the 5/30 syn at 15K and see if that helps.
thanks,
Kenneth

Re: Is oil consumption common with Honda???
Oil consumption is not usually an issue with Hondas. I never once added oil to any of my NSXs and they were high mileage cars that I beat on. My parents have gone through several generations of Civics, going well over 100K miles on all of them, with no oil consumption issues.

Re: Is oil consumption common with Honda???
My Accord eats oil. it has 160k and I beat the crap out of it and didn't take care of it one bit. 10K plus oil changes etc. Still, it gets 33 MPG and has never failed me. It has been a very good car considering what hell I put it through.

My wifes Odyessey has 12k on the current oil change and I haven't had to add a drop. I had an 02 Civic Si and it didn't use any either.

The only oil consumption "issue" I have ever had is in my high rpm (8,500+) B series Vtec engines. I wouldn't really call that much of an issue... but anyways. Its not a common problem by any means.
