Looking to Add More Power to LSVTEC
Hey everyone,
I have an LS/V setup that I'm looking to add a bit more power to. I've driven the car 50 miles everyday, 5 days out of the week, for the past 2 months (work Orange County to Downtown LA) and it hasn't skipped a beat. I've also taken it out to Las Vegas and back with no issues. This is pretty much my beater lol.
And yes, the car can have some downtime. I have the option of taking the train to work as well..
I do have a list of specs for the motor.. I bought the car with the motor built as the list shows. It's running on a chipped P72 ECU right now from Import Auto Pros. I'm surprised it runs decent as it does for a chipped ECU. Gets me 28-30mpg, and doesn't stutter or hesitate.
However, I just want a bit more out of it. Is there a set of cams I can throw on w/ some valvetrain to back it up or any other things I can do to wake it up a bit more while retaining reliability. (Yes, I will have it tuned after the parts are installed)
I know the main issue right now is that it has an LS S80 transmission, but I look forward to getting a GSR transmission for it soon. Even then, I feel it'll still feel a bit weak/boring.
Any recommendations, criticism, help is greatly appreciated. I was contemplating on selling the car and acquiring something newer, but I don't really like the thought of making car payments.
Here's a list of what was done to the motor -
B18A1 Block - Decked, Honed and Bored to 81.5mm
B16A2 Head w/ serviced valve job
81.5mm PR4 Pistons
ACL Bearings
APR Rod Bolts
Golden Eagle Head Studs
OEM Head/Block Gasket Seals
Oil Sandwich to run LS/VTEC
EARL Braided Oil Line
P72 Oil Pump
P72 Water Pump
P72 Timing Belt
Micropolished Crank
Then just bolt on stuff -
Skunk2 1st Gen Intake Manifold
DC 4-2-1 CARB Legal Header
Blackworks Racing Test Pipe
Twin-Loop Muffler
Generic Short Ram Intake

I would agree with the above. As you know, that LS trans is really lackluster, a gsr trans would be a major improvement in acceleration and b16a trans even better yet.

Take a look at Rocket Motorsports M22xx for your 1.8L LSV
Also check out HK MotorSports Dyno Shop: Honda Tuning and Acura Performance
since you are in SoCal

1St thing I would do is get it properly tuned. Chipped ECUs are generally tuned on the safe side. Some proper ignition tuning on a dyno will most likely give you a little more HP.
Then a better header and a good cold air intake with a velocity stack.
Actually do the intake and header first, then get it tuned.
A better transmission will definitely help as well. LS transmissions are geared way to long. B16/Gsr/ITR are all great choices.

I would do ctr cams and some better gearing. After that get yourself a nice tune you will be happy. While typw r cams dont make crazy power they have a nice solid midrange
