Honda V6 Timing Marks

Default Honda V6 Timing Marks

I wanted to pass on what I learned following this weekend's timing belt replacement on my 2007 Honda Pilot. The lower cover has TWO marks on it that should not be confused. Although I was lucky enough to not cause engine damage (I followed directions including turning the crank over by hand 5 times where I did NOT feel any interference), it did take me 5 tries to finally figure out the problem of not starting was these timing marks. I initially only saw the mark towards the FRONT of the engine (looked like a roof, aligned with the FRONT bank of cylinders), and after staring at the lower front cover in a daze, I saw the mark on the LEFT side (larger triangle pointing towards crank).

Here's an image from the Honda Pats Sales website for a 2012 Accord, but the 2007 Pilot image does NOT show the incorrect timing mark:
