Building a GS-R need Advice
Hi guys , im building a GSR motor that i bought for 500 with a LSD B16 transmition . It was running but compression was low , i did a wet compression test and seem to go up so i thought to my self why not just build the whole engine since its already apart .
Im looking for 190-250 hp range depends on what parts i end up buying .
im ordering this weekend some parts .
-ycp high compression pistons
-stock gsr rods
-ferrea valves and some springs and retainers from speed factory
-kings bearins and oem rings
-cometic head gasket 3 layer
-arp head studs and rod studs
getting the block honed and taking the head to get ported and resurfaced .
im looking for help about what cams to go with .
& is it safe to run on stock rods? Im buying arp studs for them since i know something could go wrong with oem studs.
i heard its safe under 400whp and under 12.5 compression ?
this motor going on a crx and will only be driven on weekends for auto x or for weekend at the dragstrip .
so not looking for mad horsepower just reliability and not sure whats best to tune in ? Crome or neptune? I know hondata is the way to go . Might just let the car sit if i deside to go with a s300 to save up . Any help and advices will be appreciated .

I also just bought some 450cc DSM injectors with the pigtails . Now im going to be buying a walbro fuel pump . Will my stock fuel rail be okay with that size injectors ?

Id ditch buying new oem rods the originals should be fine to use. Also match your valve springs and retainers to the cams you choose. If you want 250 whp better have at least Skunk2 Pro 2 cams and a good header and intake manifold. IMO the SK2 ultra street and a 74mm TB and 3" cai will suit the motor well with Pro 2"s use good fuel too .

The 1950's called, it wants its technology back. Get a refund and at least use the RDX injectors to bring you into this era. Hell regular Bosch EV14 injectors are so cheap it makes me wonder why anyone would run an old pintle style at all.

There is not going to be a drop in performance, but there will be a loss in potential performance. Your method of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." means we should all put carburetors on our cars. They work just fine when you know what you're doing and would save us all from buying throttle bodies and injectors as separate upgrades. Why don't we? Most likely drivability and efficiency. We are talking about modding a car for performance and if you want the most out of it you innovate and progress to continually find better ways of doing something. Hell I wish I could direct inject my B series, run 17:1 pistons and have killer MPG too but until I find a way of machining the head to do so it will just be running on hopes and dreams like Johnny Tran before RaceWars. #SeeYouInTheDesert #1Week

I finish my cars and go to the next to complete them. Potential is always there but you have to remember that switching the entire setup just for a couple more ponies or efficiency points is a law of diminishing returns.
BTW I currently work with several agencies on newer technologies considering multiple canbus systems using over 15-20 ECMs in the workflow process of new automotive processors.
I'm reviewing policies today with cities that work with autonomous vehicles in intellectual property law.
So believe me, newer automotive technology is a big part of my life. Being exposed to that environment also teaches me that "the more one overtakes the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."
No..No carbs.. But I also know the limits of what I'm willing to put in to complete multiple projects.

Re: Building a GS-R need Advice
Okay i havent updated this but i did a Rear disc conversion from a da9 i had sitting over a year and i couldnt find the trailing arm bushing all seemed to be smaller so i order some online hope they fit . And im waiting on parts for the engine . Getting my suspesion ready thats what im mainly worried about for safety reasons . A motor can always blow but i dontt want anything going wrong driving at high speeds . Well parts i got for the rear suspesion is
1990 trailing arms
skunk2 lca
skunk2 camber kits
new breaks
new rotors
new break lines
new shocks with ground controls
da9 sway bar
everything is already on just waiting on the bushings to come in to drop the trailing arm again .
for the front suspesion i got
new bushings and tie rods
sway bar
new rotors
new breaks
new break lines
blox camber kits
and soon to be installed
i work everyday so i only have sundays off to work on it .

Re: Building a GS-R need Advice
What head are you using with those pistons ? I think at that compression a Pro 1 cam will do you good. I can't speak for other cams as I haven't had any experience with them.

Re: Building a GS-R need Advice
I'm using a P72 head , sending the head to get resurfaced and p&p . After thats done ima assemble the head and wait on cams . Most likely sk2 stage 2 cams . 4-2-1 headers soon to buy some good headers and i already got my 450cc injectors in on a gsr manifold , but its been ported

Re: Building a GS-R need Advice
Ah okay. I asked because I was curious about the P2V clearance if you weren't using a B16 head. Now when you say Stage 2 what level cam are you talking? Because theres a Stg 2 for both the tuner and Pro series. Call skunk 2 and tell them your specs and they'll tell you right over the phone which cam would work best with your set up.

Re: Building a GS-R need Advice
yea man i think im going with skunk2 after i call them and get the right set of cams . So far whats done to it is pistons , rods , arp rod bolts , ported head , ported oem manifold , middle plate in between the manifold has been deleted , and ima order a 70mm skunk2 manifold soon with the set of cams , and yes im thinking on running e85 or anything above 91 if i can get my hands on it . Also i know 250whp is alot to ask thats why im happy with 190-250 on my build just something to have a little fun at auto x events or the track once in a while . This is my first engine i ever built as in after market parts and tuning . So what would be a good base map to start up the car once its in the chassis ? I just want to make sure everything is good before i tow it to a tuner 2 hours away. Thanks for the reply
