You can't run the B18C belt on s B20 block and head. The LS/B20 belt has a couple more teeth if I remember correctly.

A quick way to remember this is the TB must match the oil pump and water pump to work correctly and have the correct tooth count. If you plan on doing a B20V I recommend putting a vtec oil pump and water pump on that block so its oiling and colling properly, especially in the higher RPM range you will be turning in vtec. That is if you put rod bolts on the B20 rods.

all obd2 b series have the same oil pump, so no need to switch that out. you can use the gsr belt on a b20 as long as the water pump matches (that's why there's different tooth counts)

thanks a lot!!!!

ok soo, i can use b20 block and heads with GSR timing blet and water pump.

my poor b16a is deading but is a great engine, about 60 milles per day and kicking 7200 rpm.

the new setup will be:
b20b short block (oem pistones and rods with arp bolts)
b18c1 head with flat valve, itr jdm cams, skunk2 intake manifold, greddy header 4-2-1, 2 1/2 cat back, b&m fuel reg, big flow fuel riel and another bolts on.

you don't need a fuel pressure regulator or fuel rail. both will support over 400whp.

Im pretty sure thats not true, why does everyone use the oil pumps from b16 or gsr with there b20vtec swaps.... I know I did.

The ones from the vtec models flow better at high rpms.....

Why not just use the ones specified for the b20? You're just making it harder on yourself. You are not going to gain any whp from this.

The P72 pump was used for 95+ yes. All the same. Earlier years there was a difference. The 88-91 used an 84mm gear and the OBD2's (95'-96'+) all used the 80mm gear. Neither one outflow the other its just how the gearing was manipulated in each pump specifically. The water pumps are what differ. vtec motors use a different pump which flows at slightly higher volumes than the PR4 pumps used on non-vtec motors. They also have a different tooth count which determine what TB should be used.

there was never a b20 for obd0/1 so he would have the same oil pump as the one you're saying to put in....

Gayludes had b20a's I belive, they have all different parts

As far as oil pumps...I ordered 2 "type r" oil pumps for my builds thinkin they were different. Ordered a ls one for a customer and when it came noticed it had the same part number as the "type r" one

I also tried putting a gsr water pump and timing belt on my LS and for some reason it kept going off timing...worked fine when I got all LS stuff back on it

I recently ran into this problem with my b20. I have a b20b short block and B16 head. I had to replace the water pump, so, the question remained... What timing belt do i use?!?! I ended up just getting a B20 water pump with a b16 timing belt. I didnt run into one single problem with this set up. It never hurts to take your old parts to the auto parts store and see what the differences may be.
