200whp B18a1
hey fellas,
two summers ago I built my LS motor in my 93 DA, the build up can be seen in my sig. The results were as follows:
As you can see, 152whp, 118wtq.
Recently, I have been tossing around the idea of going *****-out and shooting for 200whp. The car's epoxy black primer and pretty damn fast considering the long-geared ys1 tranny in it currently. It would just be a total sleeper if I went all out and went for broke. I'm just not certain if I want to go through with it, and I wanted to see what yinz guys thought of the plans.
Old set-up:
Block:
b18a1 Block
p30 Pistons(.25 over)
New Main/Rod Bearings
ARP Rod Bolts
ARP Head Studs
Head:
b18a1 Head (-.010")
Edelbrock Performer X
AEM 2.75" Intake
Crower 403's
Crower Valve Springs & Ti Retainers
New Steel Valve Locks
New Valve Seals
Engine's sitting in this:
The New set-up would consist of:
-having the head ported and polished
-take another .010" off the head
-port-matching the intake manifold
-new header (possibly a tri-y, not sure what to run exactly, as ground clearance is a major issue)
-3" intake with velocity stack
-possibly stepping up to crower 404's
-playing with cam gear settings(never messed with them on the dyno)
I'd probably try and find a cable b16 tranny too, but that's kinda superfluous right now.
Here's what I'm wondering:
-think I'd be in the ballpark of ~200whp? The number isn't all that important to me, I'm just bored and want something to shoot for.
-would I need to step up to bigger injectors?
-are 404's streetable(i.e. decent idle, not terrible gas mileage) with a good tune?
-any ideas for a nice header with good ground clearance?
I'm interested to hear what your guys' input is and I appreciate all feedback,
Thanks,
-Chris

I really hope you meet your goals, i love when people use "underdog motors" don't let anyone convince you to go LS/V there is no fun on easy HP.
PM me, i don't want to post for everyone.

Yeah, I'm trying to source a b16 cable tranny but I also don't want to get railed up the poopshoot, price-wise.
Here's some pics of the engine at various stages:
More pics of build progress can be seen in the build thread in my sig.
Have any of you guys tried 404's on your street vehicle?
I was doing some more research and saw a fella hit high 100's with an LS using a DC 4-1 header, maybe I'll look into that.

There is a guy in my area with a 200whp all motor LS w/ GSR tranny and he was running k20 coupes into the ground at the track. looks like a fun build.
