Idea to break loose crankshaft pully bolt
Hi folks,
New to the board and like to check this idea with you.
I am preparing to change the timing belt in 3 weeks on a 2006 TL. I did a lot reading and learned to loose the crankshaft bolt probably is the most difficult part. I have done it on a Civic almost 30 years ago and remembered there is a flywheel cover to remove, then use a big screwdriver to block it from rotation while unbolt the bolt. On this TL engine, is there an access to the flywheel to block? I saw on the Youtube, there is a small space to access when the starter is removed.
The reason I want to take this approach is because comparing the diameter of FW (about 300 mm) to the hex tool (50 mm), I gain 5 times leverage if I block the FW instead blocking the pulley from rotating. I am not sure if it make sense or if it is a safe to block FW from the starter opening.
Please all feedbacks are appreciated.

Re: Idea to break loose crankshaft pully bolt
I've done hundreds of the honda v6 timing belts and I use a oem remover key and lock it to frame then use big breaker bar and done in mins
I wouldn't try to lock flywheel

Re: Idea to break loose crankshaft pully bolt
Many thanks for the input which give me some encouragement using the breaker bar.
I went through many thoughts including reverse the starter rotation but I guess none of these are viable.
I will order the 50 mm hex key and buy a very long steel pipe .

Re: Idea to break loose crankshaft pully bolt
Breaker bar is still challenging.
With the Hex Key or crank pulley holder locked to the frame, I use a torque multiplier and a mild breaker bar with next to no effort.
Setup looks like this on my 4 banger Honda, would be the same idea on your car:
By far the easiest way to date by hand tools.
Of note, the torque multiplier uses a 3/4" male and has a 1/2" female for the breaker bar.
Cost a little coin for the 3/4" drive 17mm socket. And even bigger coin for the 3/4" 10" long extension.
