95 Legend type 1 no compression rebuild
Hey guys! I bit the bullet and picked up a 1995 Acura legend. Type 1 tho : ( I regret selling my 94 type II.
Anyways I found out today that my crank but no-start issue is compressions.
The previous owner claimed timing belt/HG/Water pump were done, but this appears that this is not the case.
I know its been cranked a lot. So I'm going to expect the worst case scenario and assume the valves are bent. Fortunately I work at a trade school, and by asking nicely and offering pizza, the Engine class may make a project out of it!
This will take a few weeks so I'm doing my research, and here's my question: What do you recommend to get the job done right?
I read someone recommend oversized valves from ferrea. Does that require any other customization or adjustment? What is involved in that?
As for recommended headgaskets, OEM?
Any other suggestions?

Re: 95 Legend type 1 no compression rebuild
I thought about that and checked out used imported engines, over $800. Don't see any around on Craigslist for me to swap.
It may still be just a head gasket, but incase it's not, still just paying for parts is cheaper than a new engine, right?

Re: 95 Legend type 1 no compression rebuild
hey whats up, first off i absolutely love these legends!! they ride nice are peppy for a 200hp v6. my brother had a 93 legend and a 94. he drove the 93 till it was on its last leg then he found a 94 and drove it for about a year untill the head gasket blew. he could still drive it to work everyday but has to keep the radiator cap loose to keep from pressure from building up. the blown head gasket was so bad it built up so much pressure it blew up the radiator hose. i told him he most likely the gasket is blown.
aside from the 94 with the blown gasket, on his 93 legend i helped him change the water pump/timing belt and i couldn't believe how bad the cooling system was corroded. the fins for the water pump were disintegrated to nothing!! there was no fan blades on the pump it was all dirty inside the ports to the water pump.
we cleaned it as best we could and put it back together. it lasted another 3-4 years before the car rotted out. so definitely do a compression test in between all cylinders, have someone turn the car over while u look at the coolant level in the radiator and look for air bubbles coming up when he cranks it. hope this help
