Check your owner's manual.

Or do a Google search.

Go to the garage door and press the learn button (usually a square purple, but may differ) for one second. Then press the button in the TL. It should click and/or light should blink once. The code is learned, and you should be able to use it as a regular garage door remote now.

As always, it could differ with different models of opener, but that's generally the standard procedure. Make sure the car is fully in the garage, or fully out of the garage.

i have always just held down the homelink button and then held the Garage Door Opener next to it with the button pressed down as well for 12-15 seconds, you will see the light on the homelink blink and you are good to go

If your garage opener utilizes a rolling code, then you need to use the "Learn" button that is located on the garage opener. Otherwise, you can simply press the remote and then the HL button to set it.
